I have a hen that is skittish and doesn't like being held, but I can always catch her. Without chasing her.
Some breeds are definitely just more skittish.

But children chasing the birds would definitely make them nervous.

In which situation would you not have that choice? It's a good technique often used.

I don't use it. I don't have to.
If I have a skittish bird I can't catch without chasing, I walk towards it and guide it to a corner. Then pick her/him up gently. Problem solved.

I've never seen any case of where a bird that isn't going to survive for a hour is up and sprinting away from everyone

I was subscribed to the YouTube channel The White House on The Hill for the past 4 or 5 months or so, but in the past 2ish months, some of their treatment of their animals has made me uncomfortable. Sure, they have a cool mobile main chicken coop, rare, pretty birds and cute kids, but they also refuse to acknowledge feedback and concern from their viewers, such as myself. They allow their kids to chase and harrass the chickens and baby birds, yell and scream when the birds do something they see as funny, terrifying them, and more. The worst thing so far is their treatment of the emus. First things first, they have 2 females and one male! Seeing as females emus are the dominant gender in emu behavior, this is essentially like putting 2 roosters with a single hen. Female emus will fight to the death over a male, as roosters will. We saw this in one on the past videos, where they found a massive gash on the chest of one of the females. They wrote it off as a dog attack, when an trio of emus could and would kill an attacking dog before it escaped the enclosure. No. This was dominance aggression. It will only escalate is things don't change fast. Hundreds of folks in the comments said this too, over and over, but did they address the responses in the next vlog? NO. They continued to blame it on a dog/coyote attack and have refused to talk about the incident again. Infact, on one of their stories, I expressed my concerns in a respectful but meaningful comment wich quickly took the place as the top comment on the story, and yet...nothing. Not a peep from them. And in the very next video, they installed a 'pool' for them. With a very slippery bottom wich caused poor bamboo to slip and fall. The family then proceeded to laugh and scream at him, startling him and making flail in an effort to get up. He could easily have injured himself in this incident, with the combined slippery bottom and panic. After this video, I finally unsubscribed.

Bottom line is, I no longer support this YouTube channel, and I was wondering wether anyone else feels similarly. Thank you for reading my little rant

Yeah, even my somewhat skittish ones I can usually catch if I need to but sometimes I can’t cause mine are usually free ranging so they like to play with me and duck out of reach over and over

If they’re inside a run or coop, I can usually corner one rather than chasing it.

And even when they’re out, I usually just bribe them with food and/or crouch down and wait LOL

Although that said, I don’t think healthy birds should necessarily die from a little bit of chasing because I’ve watched my birds and they chase each other sometimes too. They were relentless with my poor rooster for a while he’s fine.

Ok well without all your smart Aleck (or however you spell that word ! ) Answers , what I was getting at is sometimes they need to be chased in rare cases and it's fine ! Will it really hurt the chooks being chased a little , roosters Chase the hens and the hens might get annoyed or stressed, but are you really going to get rid of a good rooster for chasing the hens? no, of course not ! and if chickens died from being scared or stressed chickens would be extinct by now !

It's also personal preference and me being a softie.
I can't bear to think of my birds being chased. I know they don't think like we do.
My cockerel has bumblefoot, and we have a lot of gravel.
I don't even like him running across to get to food. I have to go and be a taxi.

I had a chick that died. I stupidly put it near a hen. She pecked it and left a gash. He survived that, but died of something else.
I haven't been able to fully trust myself since then. Let alone a young child.
I'm a bit touchy on that subject.
Only, once something has died or been badly hurt, it's not always reversible.

It's not smart alec. I'm just stating what I fully believe to be true. And my experiences. Which haven't always ended well.

A little bit of chasing is natural, but being chased all around by humans that are screaming and trying to grab whatever they can reach (as little children seem to do) is different.

In my opinion, a good rooster does not chase the hens.
And yes. If the cockerel is being a jerk like that, often people do get rid of them. I don't. I'm soft. But other more practical people absolutely would.
