Anyone else order chicks??

Hey yall, I ordered 10 RIR last week. I got a rare breed for free. They are doing great in the bathtub, reduced the heat to 90 today, and they are learning to roost already. Soooo precious. Dachshund wants to eat them, but other than that everything is going great.

Ohhh, sorry about the dachshund! I'm worried about that, too, with our English Bulldog. I hatched two MF d'Uccle on the 19th, but have an order of 25 on their way from Stromburg's Chickens (shipped yesterday). I'm planning on doing the bathtub brooder thing, too, until they get their land-legs, maybe a few days. The chicks should be here tomorrow, but I can't help but jump up everytime I hear a vehicle that sounds like it might be my maillady.

Best of luck to everyone!

I just ordered from Ideal. They ship November 7th. I am so eggcited;) It is my first chicks since I was a child. I am getting 1 of each: Cochin, Welsummer, Maran, Barred Plymouth Rock, Sex link, Brahma, Wyandotte and Ameracauna. I am also getting 5 Cornish X.

I ordered a couple weeks ago and managed to rope a few others in with me (enabler you know ) They arrived this morning (from Ideal) and they were all in great shape! I really thought we would have had a few dead ones because we just had about 9 inches of snow yesterday and a really cold night last night! I got 4 gold laced bantam cochins, 4 bantam dark brahmas - they are toooooo adorable. We hatched a lone bantam lavender ameraucana almost 2 weeks ago and I could not stand seeing it on its own all the time! Misty is in shock with 25 boisterous and noisy little 'day' olds added to the quiet and calm brooder! I am hoping that he/she will adjust to having other chickies around. The first few minutes Misty hopped up on DD's arm and wouldn't get down and then for a while sat off on the side! DD picked Misty up and put him/her in the mix and she/he seems to be ok now! Will have to take a few pics before the other two ladies come to pick everyone up. I have two others who ordered some golden sex links, rhode island reds, and standard brahma mix.

Hello, got 25 Isa Browns - hatched Oct. 11, 2011 - growing like weeds, have had them out since day one in a large brooder outside....blocked wind with tarp and used 2 heat lamps during the 40 degree weather we have had since they got here....adjusting well, flying all over the pen... feathering out, now getting the back feathers /they look a mess...Ha. they turned from redish gold to white winged in a week, really facinating to watch...eat like little piglets..put 2 boxes in the brooder and they play INSIDE and ON TOP...very active...waiting for 45 degrees this weekend and maybe (hopefully) some rain so have work to do outside tomorrow.....These girls will be mainly for eggs... the 40 more in the big pen are for meat, they give wonderful eggs also but want them for meat....am raising game hens along with the RIRs, buff orps etc...because they are known to be broody and this is the way I want my flock to grow, naturally .... hoping this will work...have a frizzle that weighs next to nothing and has hatched 2 batches for us...a predator got the one game hen that was old enough to be broody....am anxious to see if any of the others will....18 pullets are now approaching 7 mo,(ready to lay) BUT...all went into a molt and haven't seen an egg in a while...well one or two a day....so PATIENCE is the word......sorry I rattled on just felt like sharing....G Lost 25 pullets to a predator just recently so this could be why the hens are molting, etc.. stressed and winter is coming on so who knows....they do....Have a blessed day tomorrow...G
