Anyone else ordering from Superior Farms?

Ahh wish I had room for that many pens and birds seems like a good place to get foundation stock. If I could I would get langshans and dark and buff brahmas.

I just placed an order for eggs -- a dozen Silver Penciled Rocks and a dozen Silver Leghorns. They'll be shipped in early Feb.

My guess is their stock is better quality than McMurray, which was the only other place I found selling those breeds.

There stock is better than many breeders out there. They bought most of their stock from elderly breeders who needed to downsize or get out of a certain breed altogether. They bought all of Richard Schock's old Minorca line. Also bought a whole bunch of his Langshans as well as Forrest Beauford's Langshans. The place could hold it's own APA show and not have a single bird marked as NSQ (not show quality) or disqualified.

Doh! That's right! I mis-spoke when I said "big"re: the Dels. Sorry everybody; I was thinking in terms of shallow vs deep-bodied and had it in my head that they were okay type-wise.

Anyway, thanks for posting those Brahma pics, Mikarod. Very nice.

Dreaming of Del pics...

Mikarod those birds are beautiful its a hatchery for sure but a darn good one and probably the best quality birds around for the most breeds.

Since less than 10% of hatched eggs from proven "Show Quality" stock end up as being "Show Quality" themselves, I would be VERY leery of any breeder/hatchery advertising otherwise.

You get what you pay for, & a breeder that specializes in only a couple breeds is MUCH more likely to have superior quality chooks than 1 who is selling many varieties.

It is *extremely* tough to find Delaware breeders, let alone anyone who ships high quality chicks... So to me it was worth a try. I'm in line for some hatching eggs this Spring, but of course there's no guarantee that any will hatch for me.

The rest of the chicks I ordered were just for vanity - decent quality birds and lots of color!

Blue, speckles, and silver pencils - should be lovely.
