Anyone else starting eggs tonight? Hatch date 8-24

Well,,out of my first 36 new blood Marans, candled them last Thursday nite, and 5 of them seems dark,,out of 22 French Black Coppers,20 of them looked great, and out of 14 Wheaton Marans,5 of them looks good. So that gives me 35 possibles, starting Aug 26-27,,still havn't candled the remaining 2 1/2 racks but want to his week, and get more eggs to fill the empty racks.

Still only 2 hatched but 15 have pipped. Some have started zipping. I am headed to bed. I'll update in the morning.

Good LUCK on your hatching!

I know several people will be upset but I took some of the chicks out of the incubator. I made sure the humidity was way up. It was at about 91% with all the hatching. I also made sure that the chicks I took out were dry. I opened up one window and reached in. Burnt my armin the process but it was worth it. I also took out the empty shells. The babies were just bulldozing the the unhatched eggs. and it was getting a little cramped in there. I took out 12 babies and ended up leaving only one. It ended up hatching as I was removing the others. I took a picture to share with everyone. They still have some stuff dried on them, but they are dry. I hope everyone thinks they are as cute as I do.

Mine hatched over the weekend, 9 out of the 10 eggs in the bator. I had to help one that was completely stuck, but I don't think it was a humidity issue since another hatched fine on its own just a short time later. The stuck chick is doing okay, but is having some issues with curled toes, so it and the last to hatch are still in the bator so it doesn't get run over by the other 7 that are zooming around. It's better this morning than it was yesterday, so hopefully by tomorrow it will be ready to join the others.

Good luck to everyone still hatching.

Congrats to you Mariposa and shadowpaints. I am sure you are just as excited as I am.

I now have 18 hatched. I have went ahead and left the last 6 chick in the incubator since there is more room. There are a total of 5 black babies and 13 red. There are still 12 eggs left.

I finally broke down and pulled the chick having problems out of the bator. Turns out it has wry neck, or so I think. It's head is twisted to the left slightly, but it is enough to mess with its balance. It is doing a lot better on solid ground instead of the wire. Here is a pic of it. You can't see the problem but it is a cute pic, even if it is fuzzy. I'll also add a pic of the ones in the brooder.

Well today is day 21 and this is what I have: I had 5 of 10 blue splash marans that started developing. On Day 10 I had a blood ring in one of those. (these were shipped, so not a bad number). I had 3 RIR in a homemade incubator developing. On day 14 I only had 1 RIR developing. On day 18 all 4 of splash marans were squirming and wiggling. I accidently dropped the clear plastic dome on my Brinsea eco on two eggs. These blow had cracks that didn't seem to penetrate the membranes. I candled them both and they were moving after that. So for two days the 4 were moving and last night one of the cracked ones started pipping and cracking it's egg considerably more (day 20) and then nothing. On the other hand the RIR in the other incubator pipped at day 18 and I quickly transferred it to my brinsea. No movement from that one at all. I'm trying to sit on my hands but it's hard. When I added the RIR egg last night, I briefly candled all and the marans were moving in their shells and the RIR-no movement but it's hard to see inside it.

So if you followed that, we are now on day 21 for the marans and day 20 for the RIR. I did not see any rocking this morning before work. Is there any hope? Should I do anything? Sorry this is so long!!!!!

Today is my little ones hatch date and I think I heard a few little peeps from the bator and saw a few wiggles but nothing major has happened yet. I am keeping everything crossed that in the next day or so I have some babies!!! Bator has been on lock down since Saturday the 22nd after I made sure there was a wet rag in there and water in the bottom to keep humidity up for the hatch. This is first go around really and am unsure of how long after hatch date comes it can take for them to actually get here

Last night at 9 pm we had our first chick and at midnight her sister arrived. The last two are pipped and starting to zip!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!
Sadly the little RIR did not survive. It pipped at day 18 and never went further. I think my homemade incubator temps are less stable than I thought. The 4 Marans have been in my Brinsea eco mini. I can't wait to see the other two as their eggs were rocking and moving this am.
