Those are indeed nice. How rare is to to find, though, a game bird breeder in the US? (especially for Shamos?) I love their looks, and hear they are really good if you don't have other chicken breeds around them. (not great for egglaying or such, but as a "pet" or show bird)
There are plenty of shamo breeders, if you know where to look. Right now it would be a little hard to find stock. Typically everything gets sold in the Fall months, when the weather is better for shipping purposes. Were you wanting bantam or standard size?
Standard, and yeah, we aren't even going to sell eggs until spring. It's a seasonal thing for all poultry. I find a liking to larger chicken breeds, and the Ko(?) Shamo is quite striking!
I saw some Malgache in person back in 2006 and was just amazed! I tried to buy one from the man showing but as luck would have it I showed up late on coop-out day (got lost in construction) and was waiting for him to return to his birds (he was packing up to leave) when I got a call over the loudspeaker I had to attend to. By the time I got back him and his birds were gone.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Reunion Island games related to the Malgache? I know also there are strains of gamefowl in Jamaica that are naked necked as well.
Vcomb:
I couldn't find anything on the Reunion Island games.
If I am correct the Madagascar Game/ Malgache, Ga Don, and the Ga Noi can all be found on the Reunion Island.. Could the Reunion Island games be called something else?
Here is some information on them you will have to connect the link to get it to work the filter on BYC doesn't like the link..
Cuban Longtails: Thanks, that site has some phenomenal Shamos! The Ko Shamo are interesting indeed, but for some reason I thought they were the bigger ones. I'm a fan of larger breeds. And, yeah, Ultimate Fowl has a lot on Oriental Fowl, which pleases my eye quite a bit!
