Anyone else watching Gold Rush?

All i know is..
I went to Alaska for vacation once..and went to one of those cheesy recreation gold miners camps...
They had us "pan" for gold.. in this water trough..
Its not as easy as it looks! I couldnt get the tiny little gold pieces to seperate from the other rocks...
I decided i was working too hard on my vacation and just bought a little vial of gold nuggests instead..

I agree with HHF, even though I haven't lived in Alaska for a very long time. People with too little caution, and too little experience often end up dead in Alaska, even the experienced and prepared often end up dead in ways people from other states never think of.

Everyone who lives in small town Alaska, and Haines is small town Alaska. has known people who have died in accidents: flying, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, etc. Mining is inherently dangerous, and as far as I can tell, these idiots have cheated death more than once.

I did like seeing John Schnable (I have no idea how to spell that) in Friday's episode. My first thought was "oh my god, he's gotten so old". I don't know if anyone caught that he's been mining the Porcupine for 25 years, and is currently pulling $30,000/day out of mine that is basically a hobby for him. Those folks should have consulted him, and people like him. I also love seeing the sights, and love a glimpse of someone I know, but who would not remember me, except perhaps as my parent's daughter. I think my mom may have taught John S. to fly.

I think this is a made for TV reality show.

How interesting would it be (in executives minds) to do the research, buy the tools, effectively dispatch equipment, etc.

I think they are stringing us along, only to "find the gold" at the end of the season, just as the snow flies.

Gotta ensure season two viewership you know.

They do have the personalities of a stump.

They way Todd treated that man was abusive. They have their families up there like it is a camping holiday.
BTW they said they took with them 45 guns (rifles and handguns) for protection against Bears. There is 6/7 men that is approx 1/2 dozen each between them.
They should have invested the gun money in electric fencing and mining consultation.
Watching that show is like watching a slow train wreck.

Yes, I was amused by the arsenal. I'm not sure that any bear would come very close to machinery that loud, but on the other hand, I wouldn't really expect these guys to keep a clean camp and bears might come in for the garbage.
