Anyone else's hens quit laying?

Thank you for that advice! I just don't know if I'm ready to add a light to the coop yet or not. I guess I'll have to play this one by ear to see. I certainly don't want the issues that Cyn has had to deal with this year.

My hen(s) quite laying for about 3 weeks straight. Last week I had 1 egg a day for 3 days and then 1 day I had 2 and then back to 1 the next day. I put a light bulb on a timer in the coop, on at 5 am off at 10. I'm not sure if this is what did it or not.

My hens are on day 5 of no eggs whatsoever, the egg carton is running dry, and we're wondering how long we can hold out before buying eggs from the store.

But, they deserve a break, especially with some of them molting, so I'll be patient... for now!

I', with you, gumpsgirl. Mine have quit laying and I don't want to give them a light. I'm trying to be patient.

Luckily, I work with someone who has hens still laying and can give me some eggs to take to Mom's when we gather the weekend after Christmas.

Glad you have someone who can still give you eggs. Unfortunately, I'm it here. Oh well... I guess it will be grocery store eggs until they decide to start laying again. Come spring, I'm sure I will have so many eggs I won't know what to do with them all!

My 5 hens stopped laying about 1-2 months ago and my pullets are around 7 months old and have yet to lay. I have had to resort to buying eggs from the store and am completely baffled by this because I have never had this happen before. I am ready to just scream and have even stopped checking the nesting box because I know that I won't find anything in there so what is the use. I have one that stopped right after Tropical Storm Faye flooded us at the end of August and has yet to lay anything since. Crazy chickens.

Wish you all were closer to me! I'd share some eggs with you so you wouldn't have to eat those awful, anemic store eggs!! One of my previously molting BR hens started back laying and my first Delaware egg showed up today from Kira @23 weeks old. I have about seven dozen eggs in the fridge, after selling four doz and giving away two dozen. Remember, though, I have lots of girls I'm feeding to get the number of eggs I have right now.

You are so wonderful Cyn! Wish I was closer too, not just for the eggs either.

Congrats on Kira laying her first egg today!

Yeah, it's getting cold.

We have 24 hens. 3 are too young to lay. 2 are broody and of the other 19 we got 13! eggs today.... that's our record.

Do you have a light in the coop?

I went from 2 or 3 dozen a day to maby 6 eggs!
But I do have 3 broody cochins too and they steal every egg they can. I tried to mark the first ones with a pencil and the markings are barely visible now. so I gave up! LOL.
when a few hatch, Ill just dump the rest after the mommas give up.
I do have a light in the coop, But I had to move it down to point at the waterer so it wont freeze, That works for that, but dont help the egg production.
Ill just let them have their vacation!
