Anyone ever get sick after getting flu shot?

And they do know which flu is headed our way. They look at all the flu running around the world, several months in advance. They pick the most likely and most serious to be hitting the northern hemishere the next winter. They do not always pick right, but they are mostly right. It always flu season somewhere.

They actually develop flu vaccines each year from flu strains from the previous year...in effect, a year late and a flu short from being effective for this year's strains. It is no coincidence for millions of people each year that get the flu vaccine to suddenly become ill with flu-like symptoms....that would be an amazing coincidence, don't you think?

I haven't had the flu vaccine for many years....and I'm a nurse. I actually give the flu shots each year. I don't encourage people to get them but it is my job to administer these to the populace. So I do.

I got a flu shot 7 years ago and got sicker than a dog. Had to call out work for several days, and I never had done that before. I've never gotten the flu shot since and have never been sick since...not even a sniffle. Lucky me!

It is normal to get sick after a vaccination. Some handle them better than others.Read the vaccine insert for additional adverse effects that may develop. You can report your illness to VAERS. If you have more serious complications that result in vaccine injury you can file through the NVICP-national vaccine injury compensation program, but it is rare for anyone to make it past the first stage of the claims process.

Speedy healing!

Every vaccine lot is slightly different. Some *hot lots* are reported after multiple claims of illness/injury. Be sure to get a copy of the lot number for the vaccine you were given.Without that lot number you can not file a report or any future claims.

Always needed following a vaccination:

Vacine brand name, vaccine maker, lot number, date given to you, where it was injected(or nasal),and who gave the injection.

I've not had the flu in 15 yrs........ I'm not going to inject something in my body that COULD cause me to develope a disableing disease or make me sick for even a minute. I'll take my chances with my own immune system!

Myself, my husband and our two boys get a flu shot every year. None of us have ever gotten sick from it nor had anything more then a sore arm for the day. A few years back there was a shortage and only my youngest got his shot. The rest of us got the flu that year and missed a lot of work and school. And, like greenfamilyfarms said, we get a lot less of any kind of colds/respiratory stuff at all and when the kids do get something they are over it fast.

my got the flu shot at the doctor office and 2day later my hubby n i went to get the flu shot. before i left i had a reaction. i pass out and i woke up in the exam room throw up. they gave me a pill to claim down my tummy. my hubby had to drive home and my daughter came out with a wheelchair when i got home i climb into my bed and sleep to the next moring my arm was sore for a day . thank god my daughter was home so she could take care of her grandma that night.
i will be doing the flu shot at the doctor office every yr until my mother pass. i will have my mother babysitter on call next year when i get the flu shot. my daughter will be at college.
every year someone bring it home to me and i get sick from the dam flu either way it is the pits

This can be a controversial subject- just like any vaccination topic.

From what I have read, and questioned my Dr.s about, I have learned- NOT all flu vaccinations are dead- many have live, weakened virus' in them. MANY Dr.s will tell you it is dead, but it IS, in fact a weakened virus. Being injected with a virus, live or weakened, will cause you to be shedding live virus, which can infect other people.

I dont vaccinate myself or my kids anymore for flu. There are sooooo many varieties out there to catch, and there is enough modern medicine to help us if we do catch anything, I feel ok getting help from the Dr. Tooo much gov. involvement sometimes.

Here's a scary truth folks, : The very people who create the gov vaccination schedule, are the SAME people who are on the board (read:get profits from) of the companies and manufactures of those same vaccinations! You can do the research, and you will see it is true. What a scary conflict of interest, huh?

50 years ago, there were less than 15 vaccinations on the schedule for the average child, suddenly there are more than 30!! Double??!!?? PLUS flu shots? IDK, but I smell dirty politics here.

While I'm on this crazy tiff- whats up with them putting 'preservatives' (thermasol, which is a neuro toxin, in doses higher than reccomended for adults by the FDA) in the early vaccinations, then taking them out when people claimed they caused Autisim? THEN they put them back in the shot form vaccination for H1N1?!! They KNEW it would be used right away, but still put it in?? THEN they offer it free to all the school children, along with the whole 'freak people out about the flu' pamphlet?
Agh!

SORRY, I gotta stop now before I get in trouble with the mods.

Everyone: This post is from my own observations and opinions- YOU should do your own research, and make your own, informed decisions. Please do not do anything based on what a stranger tells you on the internet (and they dont get much stranger than me,

I don't agree with most of the technical points brought up in the previous post.

I don't think there is anything about not discussing vaccines in the terms of usage here, or being against vaccines. And I don't agree with the facts as presented above.

I don't agree about the dangers of attenuated virus vaccines. I do understand that one can have a reaction to a virus, but it is an allergic reaction, not the disease being created. Allergic reactions can be severe. Most of them, I believe, are to the tissue used to grow the vaccine.

I do think that any company producing any vaccine can make a product that causes difficulties, but I don't agree on the thim. issue or that attenuated vaccines are fundamentally flawed.

The nasal vacc for flu is often an attenuated virus. Other vaccines are just pieces of virus and cannot produce disease. They just cause the body to produce substances that can cause the body to react effectively to a viral infection.

To use or not use a vaccine is a personal choice in some sense(not if one gets sick and infects others, then the choice affects many people). But people should know that the facts are different.

All government officials involved in making decisions on vaccines are not corrupt and in the pocket of the pharm companies.

I won't argue that Big Pharm doesn't need constant policing and constant watching, either. They need it. And like all big companies there are greedy and selfish individuals in those companies that can do stupid things, self serving things. But not everyone in those companies is.

Funny you mention this. Last year, after getting my flu shot, I got flu symptoms as well.

I swore that I wouldn't get one again this year. But, who knows, maybe I still will.

I'll have to think very long and hard on this one.

It is not normal to get sick after a vaccination. Some people do, most don't.

I got every existing vaccination, live, killed, attenuated and everything else, all at once (except for the ones that take several days, but all during the same time), before I went abroad and I didn't even bat an eyelash. My arm was slightly sore for a day and it got pricked more times than a pincushion.

My doc said, 'wellll...the cholera thing is only about 65% effective....' and I said, 'fine, that's sixty five percent more than I got on my own, gimme it'.

If there had been more vaccines, I would have taken those too.

And while the other people I was traveling with were crawling around on the floor barfing their guts out for a week and getting so sick they could not even stand up without two people holding them up after they got 'better', I was sight seeing and having the time of my life.

I also get a pneumonia shot and all the flu vaccs every year, including H1N1, as recommended by my doc who insists anyone with chronic respiratory disease gets 'em.

A friend of mine didn't get the H1N1 vaccine, and he was in the hospital for a month with it, flat lined several times, and is now on asthma medication for how much it damaged his breathing, as well as multiple psychiatric medications for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, for the foreseeable future.

NO THANKS.

I realize it's not the 'right opinion' to have here with this crowd and that I'll be payin' for saying this on the popularity scale. But there ARE people who get vaccines, don't have problems, and are very happy and healthy doing so.
