Anyone ever hear of Kansas Chickens?

I just got 4 fertile eggs from a friend of a friend who got them from a friend...so I'm not able to ask questions that I have regarding the breed.

Apparently it's a gorgeous breed of chickens that have been raised without other genetic influence in this area for ~200 years. I have no idea what they look like, other than that they are supposed to be gorgeous, medium-sized light birds, and the roos are as beautiful as peacocks. They are supposed to be very sweet and fly well (don't need that quality!!).

I have lots of guesses about them at this point, but wonder if anyone has solid info...

The eggs are medium to small, and slightly tinted, nearly pink.

I guess I'll have more info in 3 weeks- apparently they have a 90% or better hatch rate.

I'm hatching 4 of these eggs, and hope someone who has heard of them will see this today...I'll keep bumping occasionally.

Nothing came up on google except recipes and articles. One in particular that metioned Wyandottes being from Kansas...?

I've lived here (Kansas) all my 56 years and have had chickens pretty much that long. I've never heard of them, it will be interesting to see what they turn out to be.

I just realized about the 200 years....the Native Americans would have had to had them then since they were the only ones here 200 years ago!!

I think it may be just some vague misinformation, but I candled today and think 3 of the 4 may be viable. I'm very curious, myself.

Funny thing is, first time this fellow mentioned the eggs, again, it wasn't a conversation with me directly, he said they were Missouri chickens, and since I'm only about 30 miles from the border, I thought it was certainly possible...something about Mennonite chickens.

The next thing was an email from him, talking about how they were Kansas chickens...so I'm confused, but don't know him at all, and they aren't his birds, anyway, but some acquaintance of his owns them.

I'm happy to have them, so once they hatch, I'll contact him again and see if he can't get better info for me, as he asked that I let him know how it goes. I may know more once I see chicks...one would hope!

Yes Katy they are all Yoder's Miller's Stolzfus's or Gingerich's or any one of the (very few) Mennonite Monikers that exist today. It may be necessary to have a bit of Mennonite blood coursing your veins to have this small exchange make even a little bit of sense. LOL.

For all---- Katy and I met on this forum not long ago at all as a result of her outstanding BLRW. We quickly discovered that we share this very unique heritage and also quickly discovered the we have a number of mutal friends and acqaintances (sp) due to the small world of Mennonitism. LOL It is a special world
