Well, unfortunately, as a health care worker, you're often party to very unpleasant smells. You kind of build up a tolerance to such things. I have a pretty strong stomach, but there are just some things no one can deal with.
I can imagine that an unattended body in a 90+ degree house full of animal feces would bring even the most iron-stomached medic to their knees.
When we have to deal with particularly unpleasant smells, often I'll swab a little Vick's salve under my nose and mask up. It blocks the smell completely, and you try to breathe through your mouth. You do what you have to do.
Had the mom been away for some time? I don't understand why he was left so long if she lived there. So sad.
She works odd hours and she comes down to check on him, once in a while. this time for some reason, I don't know for sure. I think she found him dead as she was visibly distraught.
I havent read the responses but when i lived in teh townhouses, a man killed himself and he was in there for a "While"
Hazmat came and blew up their portable wells and such. The problem is that it is infectious biohazard waste. It needs to be cleaned properly.
The body bloats in heat especially but also from gases that build up during decomp. decomp calls to all kinds of flies and organisms.. Not to mention who knows what the dogs did in the process.
youre lucky he didnt crack open all over the lawn.
I helped clean up my grandmother after she passed, but for "ew" factor, only at car accidents.
I guess the biggest "ew" was when they um....well...found a guy in the river at the farm....he was...well...in pieces. In two duffel bags. That was....different. Just...indescribable.
At work, I get the experience of reading a lot of death certificates. That can be sobering.
Other than seeing dead people at funerals, I have never seen any dead people outside of that. I wouldn't want to see anything like that either. It would be hard to get that image out of your mind.
yep, several. I used to be an EMT-long time ago. Its not like the movies, I found out. What I think is different, is that something 'spiritual' is missing from the body. Call it what you want, but it is noticeable and real.
