Hi Paula

Name is naturally Liz and I am from Lafayette . I know Rayne and Branch very well . Lived in Mire for 11 years , and daughter now lives in Rayne .

Gee's where were yall last year when I was living there. I had moved home for about 8 months last year and was living south of Crowley in Lyons Point. I was raising polish at the time, and couldn't find anyone, anywhere who was raising chickens. Course I wasn't signed up for this forum either...

Hi, Liz

Nice to meet you. Boy, us chicken people are coming out the woodwork...lol

Hey, Chris,

I know what you mean. I've been looking for chickens around her for awhile too, not knowing there were so many of us "chicken people" around.
We also lived south of Crowley for awhile before moving out here. My husband is actually from Crowley. Not as far out as Lyons Point, but we do go through there sometimes. My husband has relatives in Morse. He has a cousin there who I think raises every kind of bird imaginable. He has a really cool place.
Do you still raise polish?

Thats funny. All of our family is from Lyons Point, and the others are from Gueydan. And we have family in Crowley. My great aunt owns Gremillions Drugstore, and my Uncle used to own the barber shop on the north side of the court house. Small world....

No I'm not raising Polish. I sold them at the Crowley auction the Thursday before we moved back. I had one little white crested black polish hen that an old man paid $74 dollars for. I ended up selling $260 worth of birds at that little auction. People were freaking out. I guess they had never seen Polish before, and my birds were really taken care of, had never touched the ground.

When we moved back to Texas last July, and I sold all my Polish, I went a long time before I got birds again. And when I did, I decided that I wanted to focus on my first love which was Silkies. So thats what I am concentrating on. Just Silkies.

That's too funny. I can't remember who owns Gremillion's, but I'm sure I know her. I worked at Bank of Commerce in Crowley for a few years.
Boy, I'll bet you got some looks at the auction in Crowley with those Polish birds. Most of the people here think a chicken is a chicken, like an Old English. Those are the most common around here. People don't realize how many different kinds there are. It's so funny. My uncle can't get around the fact that chickens can have feathers on the legs and feet. And a Silkie---that's another story entirely!

HI Becky, yeah to bad we are not a little closer to each other! That would be so cool to meet up, we probably could get together and have a chicken gathering ;-) then, that would be cool!
