Anyone from Louisiana?

Yes we sure did get looks! People had never seen them before. They weren't even sure they were chickens until I explained to them what they were. I also sold some barred rocks and partridge rocks that night. My Polish sold for the highest price of any other bird at the auction that night! People down there think a chicken is a chicken is a chicken. And your right most of them don't know anything about any other breeds. They also don't care for their birds the way I care for mine. Every single polish bird I sold had never touched the ground. They had been raised in cages, so their feathers were all in tact and shiny. Their legs were nice and clean. They didn't have to trudge around in mud pits all day and run from stray dogs, and they certainly werent' chained to a barrel like the fighting roosters are. The old man that bought my white crested black polish hen, paid $74 for her and said that he wanted to give it to his wife to keep her company in her garden! I thought that was nice.

Gees! and they thought I was nuts when I told them that I had wormed my chickens and had them vaccinated for Mareks. No one had ever heard of such a thing!

Aww man, now I am missing home! Dang it!

Remember when Belizaires was in Crowley? I used to love to go dancing there with my grandmother when I was little. Oh and have you gone eat at Fezzo's? Dang thats some good food.

Yep, Belizaire's was so much fun. God, that seems like so long ago. Believe it or not, I've never been to Fezzo's, but we have so much good food around here, so many places to choose from.

OK had to ask. Is he kin to any Boudreaux's. Dale ,Kirby, Brett, Bart, Josh. If so we may be in trouble. My paw paw was a Boudreaux from Morse. My maw maw was a Nugiboy (sp) from Lake Arthur, Gueydan area. Great grand maw was a Broussard. Also kin to some Faulks from that area. My paw paw at one time ran a small grocery store in Morse with his third wife(long story). The store was in front, the living area was in the back of the store. My aunt Dale and Uncle Kirby live in a house behind the store. I don't get on as often as I want to I went back to work so don't have as much time.

I need some banty pullets.. I have ended up with 3 banty roosters.. and I am so attached to all of them, I would rather get a few more hens, than have to rehome any of the roos.
Would love to meet up sometime. No one around here understands my love for chickens.. it would be nice to talk to someone who gets it, LOL!

Hi! No, I don't think he is related to any Boudreauxs. My husband's family living in the Morse/Gueydan area are Henrys. I think I know the grocery store you're talking about, if it's still there. Morse is such a tiny little town.
Where are you from?

Paula

UH OHHH! I think we are Ken to some Henry's! I'm an Hebert. I'm checking with my mom to see who she knows...

Paula, Hi it was a white wooden building. Old wooden double doors in the front. The shelves along the walls where all the way to the ceiling. Paw paw had a big round solid piece of oak(a whole tree trunk that was on legs). That was his chopping block(cutting board) he sliced everything by hand no meat saws or slicers. The living quarters where in the back. Back yard was fenced in with plenty of ducks and chickens running around in the back yard. You could see it off of the main road. Since it is such a small town your husband probably knows some of the people I named. Uncle Kirby was an Alderman. I don't remember for how long. He is in his 60's. His boys are in their 40's and 30's. I don't know if that is close to ya's age.

I was born and raised in Cameron. Lived there until Rita destroyed everything. We are still trying to get a house built. We had no ins. . We dropped it ,we where putting three kids through jr. college. Could not afford to do both. So now we are building the hard way one box of nails at a time.

Even the ones that have the money to build have to wait in line for a good honest contractor to get to their house. My brother is on a waiting list to get his done. All they are going to do is black it in, he will do the rest. But it might be a year or more before they get to him.
