Yep we lost everything. House,three barns,one store shed, one feed shed,over 100 show rabbits, over one hundred show chicken, 9 pet goats, All we got out was kids, some clothes, dog and cats. It was too hot to try and bring out the rest and they said that it was hitting in houston so we took a chance and lost it all. It took us 6 hours to travel what usually takes us 45 minutes it was not a fun trip. If we would have taken the animal we would have lost them to heat stroke. So we moved 50 miles inland because we wanted to raise animals again. We decided that we did not want to go through losing our animals. I miss my animals more than my house. I had worked on my line of show birds for over 17 yrs. so it was a big lost emotionally. But at least we lost no human family members.

It was about three weeks before we could walk out there to it. But we could swim if we where brave enough to fight the snakes or gattors.
then when we got in the house we still had to watch out for snakes, gattors and fire ants. Was not much we could save out of it.

I am in Covington. I like it here. The heat is about the same as summer in NY, the winters are better!
Their are a lot of differences in food and as you see we now have chickens. I think I may be in over my head with that, but I hope BYC can help.My hubby always wanted chicken, so we started small with 4.
