There is a tractor supply co. in Flemington, NJ. Went there today (not for chicks) but saw the chicks... They didn't look that great, but if your desparate...

They are in South Fork PA. I am in north NJ as well. There is a tractor supply store in Sussex and one in blairstown. There is also Farmside supplies (sussex I think).

This is what I would do knowing what I know now - If you only want egg layers, then Ideal or My Pet Chicken would be the way to go - HOWEVER, if you do not want to go to the post office and pick them up - your mail goes thru Hackensack and that speaks for itself - I would go to the Sussex County Poultry show and check out their sale cages on May 14th. You will get top of the line, healthy birds without paying shipping charges. And there will be HUNDREDS of birds to choose from.
Cragislist is good if you don't mind travelling to someone's house and not know if you are getting healthy birds or OLD birds.
Also, Mommahen's birds are very pretty.
Tractor supply gets their birds from a hatchery, and so do most of the farm/feed stores.
