The trains run on time and often and go everywhere and are easy to understand, but I'd vote for a car too! Indulge yourself on the breads and cheeses. Almost everyone speaks a little English but for reading signs- especially while driving- know a bit of German.
The big thing is that Europe in general is not that large an area. For those of us in the huge USA, superimpose a map of Europe over the USA and see how close everything really is.
Oh.. and if you can get a flight with a stopover night in Iceland, I recommend it!

According to my German teacher, most of the highways have no speed limit. Sounds like they're not necessary either, with over 80 million residents in such a small country there's a lot of road block apparently. o.o

not really. Public transportation is VERY good, and getting a drivers license is incredibly expensive.​

Yup, and strict too! If you run a red light, your license is suspended for LIFE.

DH simply loves the autobahn in the open sections. It's seems pretty hair-raising for me, because you are required to yeild and move over to the right / slow lane to allow the mercedes and audis pass at the speed of light.

have a lot of fun! I never figured out the tipping over there. DH says its less, but then he's a bit cheap in that respect anyways.

But my sister, who worked German McD's many years, says their brand is what you'd expect from a McD's. (go somewhere else unless you're just doing it for the photo)

Best sausage and fries are from the stands at / near the train stations, usually.

Cologne (Köln) is a short train ride from Frankfurt, and has a magnificent cathedral. It is stunning when it is lit up at night, but beautiful any time. It's right next to the train station.

It has a very unusual pierced tracery tower that you can climb, if your knees are up to 509 steps

I can only imagine how it would turn out if they did that over here on a friday night. So just be aware if you see something like that. Also be careful of the cameras hiding along roads that will take a picture of you if you speed.
