Anyone going to have eggs hatch in novemeber?

Why not? They're mine, not like I'm selling them.

ETA: And I highly doubt adding a little color caused this baby to pip at the wrong end. That is my main concern at this point, not what color he/she will hatch out. I have 3 kids and it was an expirement we wanted to try. They are learning about how a chick develops. Why does this always have to be a debate? I can see how people are against selling colored chicks to idiots who don't know how to care for them but I've owned chickens for years and I don't plan on giving these guys away, much less selling them for a profit.

I am deeply sorry if I offended you or angered you in any way... I seriously wanted to know the reason why you died them and what it would do to the chicks. I have never heard about it before and was really curious about it. I would love to hear more about it if you would not mind sharing the information. As I can see that I asked a question that is highly debatable (by your answer) please feel free to PM me info. Sounds interesting to me, and I am sure that my brother would be totally into hearing about it too!!

Number 4 just finally hatched!! This gave us our 2nd 100% hatch rate! We have a few more in the incubator coming up soon to hatch so hopefully we can keep our hatch rate up!

I do not know how to make a hole in the aircell but i did candle cause i was going to toss them and one egg has a bit of movement now. I think the chick inside is moving to where its head is at the big end of the egg. :) hoping it hatches soon. the fact that there was movement makes me happy. I was going to toss them all to get ready for the next eggs to show up and be put in.
I'm still not holding my breath on this though because i figure at most i'll get 1 chick out of it.

I wouldnt throw any eggs out before 26 days- with temperature variations some chicks can take that long to hatch.

When I was younger coloured chicks (dyed with food colour dye) were very common at agricultural shows
and fairs - it's probably considered 'politically incorrect" these days, but does no harm to the chicks.

I poke a hole with something sharp that I can control a tack would be fine. Once you make a small hole you can use tweezers to make it a bigger.

This one had pipped the side but was in for 24 hours so I started at the pip. For non pipped I start at the very top of the air cell away from the chick and veins.

You can see the membrane is white/dry, you can also see a vein. Nick that and the chick dies. You can easily see where the internal membrane come in contact with the shell. Do not peel past that point there are veins down there.

I moisten the membrane with very warm water keep out of chicks beak/ membrane opening

Place back in incubator on warm wet paper towel with beak at highest point but not straight up. Moisten with warm water every couple hours til hatch.

Btw. this one hatched about 6 hours later after absorbing her blood and is doing fine. The hatch was almost bloodless (normal). She has no defects or problems.

Notes/Important. She was late (day 23). She had pipped over 24 hours earlier. I had a temp spike during day 1 of lockdown which I think dries them more even though humidity was 62%. Most chicks I do not help nor is it advisable for most chicks. I also know I have some that would not have made it without help.

Please note during learning about helping chicks like all newbies I nicked a few veins and killed some chicks. Chicks that I dont' know if they would have hatched or not. This is a process and I feel terrible when a chick dies even if it is one that I know wouldn't have made it, I also feel terrible at day 26 opening a pipped shell with a dead shrink wrapped chick. In the beginning I probably lost 50% of the chicks I helped but now I'm to a 100% success with externally pipped chicks and 90% with internally pipped chicks.

Thanks. Today i can't do it, as I'm sick and I have a few appointments. I'm not going to be home to care for it so I don't want to mess with it. I was thinking of just opening up where the air cell is so i can see what is going in inside and possibly making it easier for the chick to escape when the time comes.
i would also love to see how many are alive easily. I'm guessing easier to see movement if you open the egg up a bit.

The temp stayed good the whole time but they were damaged in shipping.

how do you color chicks? and the controversy of it is it's illegal to sell chicks that have been colored. which I don't think anyone on here would do.

OMG OMG OMG I did it without hurting anyone. I practiced on some eggs that i candled that were dead first. Then I opened up the air cells. 2 have movement. one just slight movement and the other started really kicking like what the heck are you doing in my shell. :) Looks as if they haven't absorbed yokes yet. Each of the eggs seems to be at different stages. One was rotten. So i'm glad i opened it and got it removed so it cannot explode in there.
I hope this helps the 2 with movement to hatch. I left the rest in there that i didnt see movement in but saw nice red veins in. i figure if they were dead the veins would go away wouldn't they?
The shells were very hard, it was difficult to get the needle in to start it. I'm hoping that by tomorrow my babies will be out of their shell the rest of the way. It's so cute to see them. One has it's *** against the airsac, could that be an issue? it hasn't turned it's head to the aircell yet.

This is the egg with the most movement. I am 99% sure it will hatch. The rest would be a surprise as i don't see movement in them but they have the same veining as this one so I couldn't toss them.
