Anyone gone through LapBand?

it has been on my "to do" list for a few weeks now... I have been meaning to call the Dr. and talk to him about it... great thread!

I don't think they work.

My aunt had it, lost close to 100lb. gained it all back in 9 mo.
A friend had it, lost 80+lbs, gained it all back plus 25(a guess)...Anyway, She is larger than she was.....Another got stapled, went from 200+ down to 140, her friend died and within 6mo she was wider than she was tall.
I personally know three others that had a procedure, same results after about a year.

All 6 people I know had it done just wasted their money because they never changed their eating habits, just how much their belly could hold. The stomach will eventually stretch to fit how much you can shove in there.

I'm not saying the NEVER work, I'm just saying that If a person really has the will power to change their eating habits to the 3 or 4 oz the new stomach can hold for the rest of their lives, they have the will power follow a strict eating and exercise regimine, without cheating, and loose the weight slowly over time, without surgery.

Just MHO

It wont work for me then..I like to stuff my face too much.

That's the key. The emotional reasons for eating were never resolved, so a physical "cure" won't help.

Yeah, and it's not easy.
But as time goes by your better health helps break your favorite food's seemingly magical hold on you. You realize you eat to live, not live your life looking forward to eating (or regretting eating what you've already eaten).

Best wishes to all! Like I said it's not easy but it's so worth it.

It is a life change, but for most of us with weight issues if no change is made then life will only get harder. I have lost the weight before, have been very dedicated- also have a skinny husband that eats like a pig. The last time I got down to a size 8 while he was deployed for 6 months.... didn't even tell him. He couldn't find me until I walked up to him. I was so happy. 1.5 years later I'm back to were I started. I just can't keep it off, even though I am pretty active with the farm... rolling 800lbs of hay rolls off the truck etc... I am still a carb addict. I hope with eating smaller amounts I can stay away from to many carbs... and continue to change my life. I am a very picky eater that does not like to cook, has to force myself to eat meat and non- starchy veggies.( I am trying to find a way to eat broccoli w/o barffing.) I can't bring myself to touch raw meat, it can't have a sheen or shine to it and has to be dry... LOL. I normally eat squishy stuff because of my TMJ also..... this will be fun, he he. You wouldn't think a person that needs to loose weight would have so much issues with food, LOL.

LapBands and Realize Bands are adjustable. If you find yourself eating more you can have a fill to make the band tighter.

As for the people who lost and then gained back, I think that is more common with the gastric bypass isn't it? Because with the bands you can't "shove" much in there without throwing up. There are people who don't use it properly such as drinking liquids while eating or people who consume a lot of high calorie liquid or soft foods that slip through the band.

For anyone who thinks it's an "easy way out" you are mistaken. The band is a tool and it does take commitment and work.

Both my DH and I have though about this. I do think the big key is being able to change your eating habits. I had a friend who was having some health issues and started taking a product called Nuriche, it made her feel so much better, health problems much better, tons more energy, etc., I decided to try it also, to see if I would feel better, I can honestly say it is the BEST stuff I have ever taken. My DH tried some, to try and prove to me that it didn't work, and he is now also a sworn user. It is all natural, in one drink, it has a full day's 5 servings of fruits and vegetables (most of them organic), along with seeds and nuts, probiotics, enzymes, etc. I take the drink in the morning along with 2 capsules, and 1 more capsule around 1:00 in the afternoon. I feel great, and best of all I am not hungry anymore, my sugar cravings are all but gone, and in 3 1/2 weeks I have lost 6 pounds. This is huge for me, I have a really hard time losing weight, it just comes off really slow. I have about 50 total to lose, but I know that I am well on my way. I love that Nuriche makes me feel better, gives me energy, my body is getting more/better nutrition than it ever has. Here is a link to Nuriche if you would like more information. http://www.mynuriche.com/index.html?n=179 You can get 3 day samples for just shipping charges.
