I guess I'm missing something. You don't want to keep your dog up when collecting eggs; you don't want to make sure that his access to the nests are blocked. Whatever happened to good old fashioned training? Now, I realize that teaching commands like a decent recall or using the "leave-it" command takes a good deal more time and effort on one's part than say an e-collar, however, the benefits of good, solid training are many.

If your dog continues with the above-mentioned behavior quoted, it's only a matter of time before you'll have to worry about him ever stealing eggs again.
well what i'm getting at is that my ducks and gunieas and peafowl only lay in the spring all my other birds have nest boxes up off the ground so i can't make the ducks and things nest in certain spots since they are all free range year round i don't know if that makes sense or not sorry if i'm not being clear and he's just so stubborn we have spent alot of time trying to train him but it ain't working no matter what we do plus he is still just under nine months old

All I can say is good luck! Perhaps put wood eggs in the nests to trick your dog?
thanks i'll need it and the wooden egg thing won't work because there are no nests to put them in like i have said it's just the ducks laying right now and they just move some hay around at one of the haybales around here and lay the egg then they will have to make another nest the next day because the horses have been eating on the haybale and throw hay around and destroy the nest so thats another challenge every morning for me is to get up before the horses cover the eggs. and i know that someone is going to read this and tell me to put the ducks up in a place with nest boxes but heres the thing my ducks sleep around the bank of the pond everynight and when something comes around they go in the water and sometimes they sleep on the water and i have had shelter out for them and they don't use them

Every time we drive through an area I always notice an ingenious pond we pass. The family has a dog house duck coop on a homemade raft tied to a rope sitting in the pond for the ducks. They can pull it to shore to check it but while its on the water only determined pests can bother them. Just a thought to chew on for you.

wow why hadn't i thought of that that is genious now i'll have to try it myself but my luck they won't even touch it haha but it's worth a shot right

I once had a puppy that would sneak inside the coop and steal eggs, even developed ones about to hatch. I got a nanny cam so I could see from inside my house. Every time I caught her on cam I'd run out the door with a fly swatter and yell. She would come out shyly and I would lightly swat her/shame her. It only took a week before she was broke of that habit.
