Anyone had problems with vaccinating their children?

I once had a pediatrician (when we were away from home) who was upset that I did not take a rectal temperature, but rather took an axilliary (under the arm) temperature. He read me the riot act. I already knew that the rectal is more exact, but EVERYTHING I have ever read has said that the exact degree of a temperature is not as important as whether it is a high or low fever, and whether it responds to fever reducers or not. My regular pediatrician was fine with axilliary temperatures, and actually preferred that temperatures NOT be taken rectally. Oh, and he has been certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics for 25 years, and is a member of one of the most well-respected pediatrics practices in the Phoenix East-Valley area.

I became ill at 17 following 2 doses of the hepB vaccine. I declined the 3rd.At the time I was told the vaccine had nnothing to do with my health issues, but years later I read the vaccine product insert and some of my health issues were listed in the adverse reaction section. I wish I had never gotten that vaccine, but who knew?!?!!?

I found out about the National Vaccine Injury Compensation program and VAERS. I never got the lot numbers for the vaccines that I had gotten through work that injured me,but I will get all that information if I ever decide to vaccinate my kids. It is REALLY hard to prove a vaccine injury or death. Most times your case is turned down at the first filing,so then you hire a lawyer and spend years trying to prove the vaccine injured or killed a loved one. It has been years since I looked at the NVICP,but I do remember they accepted only one case where vaccines caused a child's autism. Many things cause many illnesses.

My only annoyance with the whole issue is that many doctors are extremely firm in their belief that vaccines cause NO HEALTH ISSUES, so a kid will suffer longer. All you have to do is read a vaccine insert to know that is not true.Spend less time denying, and more time treating is how I feel.

Good health to all!

My children will not be vaccinated. It is mine and my SO's personal beliefs that we will not vaccinate.

What mothers with daughters should be concerned about right now is the Gardasil vaccines... Please people, please look into this deeply before agreeing to get your daughter injected. Do some google searching, because this vaccine in particular is scary. I'll include one link but there are many others.

Yup, very controversial subject. I have 5 children, first 2 have all their shots, 3rd has some and the last 2 have (almost) none. My 5 year old would get huge- I mean Large egg sized bumps att the injection site that caused pain and redness that lasted literally 6 weeks. Every time. He also developed exzema (not saying its related) My 3 year old got the same reaction as an infant, so I stopped all together. I think they have an issue with the weird reactions and I just dont buy the doc's response of "Well, at least it finally got better" What? 3 Doc's could not explain the reaction- all 3 of my youngest have the same parents, and only my 5 yr old developed exzema, but his older half sister ( diff mom) does have it, and all her vacc's too. IDk, but I'm just gonna wait the whole vaccine thing out for awhile. Just too much controversy. Not to mention, the VERY SAME people who manufacture the vaccines are the VERY SAME people who sit on the board of directors that create the vaccine schedule for our kids!! I did some research, and that kinda bugged me- seems unethical and very profit driven.

Rhett&SarahsMom :

....See that's funny. I would be livid if I miscarried or my baby was born with deformities because I was exposed to a child that had contracted German measles because they hadnt been vaccinated for it.
My sister is a Elementary school teacher, in a public school. When she was pregnant she was very nervous that a child would bring something besides the sniffles to class. And rightfully so. During her pregnancy there was an out break of mumps. There has been no link to the vaccines to autism. I prefer to vaccinate myself, my child and my pets. I stops the spread of disease. Fact pure and simple. No numbers needed.

During both of my pregnancies (completely separate medical practices) I was given blood tests to check for rubella antibodies. This was despite documented history of having had the illness as a young child, and also being vaccinated for it as an adult (it was a required vaccination for all AF personnel). Unless the test had shown the lack of antibodies, exposure to rubella was not a concern.

A friend just told me her daughter and son-in-law asked their ped. about shots and he point blank told them if they even considered not vac. their baby girl, they had to find another doctor. I would have anyway. Nothing like being able to ask your doctor anything!

Relative to autism, I would be more concerned with vinyl flooring and plastic baby bottles, especially baby bottles that were warmed up in a microwave. The study I am thinking about was a Swedish comparison between homes with wood flooring and vinyl.

Rhette&sarahsmom: Our daughter was vaccinated for mumps, on time and had them all- she caught the mumps at 16 years old. Vaccines do not prevent all the dieases they claim, she's living proof. Also, a person can transmit a germ without actually having the disease, so it doesnt always matter if one is vaccinated. I am not really on either side of the fence on this subject,(I just do whats right for us) I think a parent should do reasearch and INSIST on reading the info that comes with the vaccine. Its ok to be that annoying parent and if your Dr. gives you any BS about it- walk out and find another. Its your child and your right and your hard earned money, the Dr. should respect them all or find a different customer. IMO.

This is VERY true. Even after my 6 month old baby spent a week in the hospital due to a vaccine related injury, her pediatrician STILL insisted on shots at her 1 year appointment. I DON'T THINK SO.

I found a new ped. She's great.
