Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

Looks like it will be 13 I don't see anything else going on in the incubators I'll leave them running for a few more days though just incase. I had 30 go into lockdown so that would be a 43% hatch rate on shipped eggs. The two that had to be helped out had huge vaulted skulls I believe that this presented a problem at hatch time. they weren't able to turn their heads properly. I am wondering it this is what is happening inside some of the remaining eggs. These are all Silkies any thoughts out there on the head shape creating problems?

When I got up this morning I found one of mine laying on its side, twitching its legs. Dont know whats wrong with him. The last egg hatched during the night, and even with 80% humidity (not sure about that hygrometer now), he got stuck to his shell. I managed to get it off his head and he seems to be doing okay now. The last egg still hasnt hatched yet, but it was put in the day after the rest. So far 9/10 have hatched. Looks like the twitchy one isnt going to make it. All in all, not bad for my first hatch. Still makes you sad that they dont all make it though

Overall I had a 63% hatch rate. This was my second hatch. My first hatch had an initial 75%, but one didn't make it, so it dropped to 50% (only 4 egg).
The funny thing is, is that I didn't think my own flock's eggs would be very fertile because I had just gotten a rooster a week before (after not having one for a year). Anyway, another BYCer gave me 12 eggs from her flock to make sure I had a good hatch for my classroom, but then I had a 33% hatch on her eggs (which bums me out because she gave me some really really great eggs!) and a 77% hatch on mine.... wierd. So now I have lots and lots of EEs and mutts and just 4 of her Marans.

Day 21 started at 3 pm yesterday for me. I don't know how many eggs actually hatch on and after day 21 but I am going to see what happens. I decided to take all the hatched chicks out and transfer them to the brooder so I wouldn't get confused about who hatched when. I am really interested to see what happens.

I was looking at one Cochin egg this morning that had started to hatch then quit. It was one of the very first ones that pipped. I had so much going on over the past 2 days that I didn't really worry about it. Figured it died for some reason. This morning after I transfered all the hatched chicks to a brooder, I picked up that one to look at it better to see exactly what happened, and it was chirping at me. Peep! Peep! It was partially zipped and the membrane somehow got stuck to the chick (it actually looked like yolk sack) and it was in there for 2 days not able to hatch. I brought it upstairs and put some warm water in a cool whip container and tried to pick off the shell, membrane and dried yolk as best I could by wetting it so I could loosen it then peel it off. The chick is now back in the incubator sans shell, and I wrapped it up in some paper towels. I don't know if it will make it, but at least it has a chance now.

I don't want to get my hopes up that any more eggs will hatch, but you never know. I might go down later and look for that internal pip I read about on here. Too bad I couldn't find any of those Ear Amplifiers at Dollar General!

I could not find the ear amplifier either....they said it was as seen on tv and seasonal. So, I bought a blood pressure kit that had a stethoscope and used it. I could hear the heart beat and swishing around. Laid the egg down so I would not be hearing me!

Hey Alas, I had one hatch out yesterday morning that also had twitching legs. If I remember correctly someone posted on this thread that the twitching legs is a vitamin deficiency and to give them some electrolytes. In a couple days they should be better or getting there. Maybe someone one can correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

This is our first hatch. We have 14 Silkie Hens and 1 Silkie Rooster. We purchased 7 eggs from My Pet Chicken. 4.7.2011 3 of our eggs hatched. 4.10.2011 today one more of our
eggs hatched.

NONE OF THE 7 EGGS FROM MY PET CHICKEN HATCHED.....to date. It has been 23 days.

All our eggs hatched from our hens. I KNOW we will never purchased eggs from My Pet Chicken. We were hoping at least one would hatch. Reason why we purhased the eggs...we do NOT have white Silkies and we wanted some white.
