I'm in lock down today. Was going to wait until tomorrow, because I thought I was going to use another bator, but, am using one I like better for the day 18 lock down. Yaay, watching for wriggle worms tomorrow. Oh, I mean chicks. No wait...eggs!

The bator in my classroom is hatching!!!

Unfortunately I missed the first few chicks that hatched because I left to go to the doctor (yea, strep again!) My hubby and kids went into the classroom right before the bell and all the kids were going nuts and yelling (I'm sure the sub was thrilled!). They were yelling at my husband to come look and sure enough, 2 chicks and lots of peeps. I swear at noon when I left, there wasn't even a pip or movement!!!

Here's the webcam. It'll be on until 10pm MST when the district shuts all the computers off.

When I just looked, it looks like the sub or someone moved the little LED light that I had on top of it. Maybe I'll just happen to drive over there.... it's only 20 minutes away.

There are a total of 30 chicken eggs and 4 BR turkey eggs.

OK here's my deliema...

At least two chicks already hatched between 1-3:30 today. I'm kinda sick and live 20 minutes away. Do I drive over there and set up the brooder now or wait til tomorrow which I was planning on, and working on it with hubby and my aide in the morning?

What to do, what to do?? Oh yeah and someone moved the light for my bator so when the custodian isn't working in my room, the lights go off and I can't check on the webcam!!!

The chicks are OK for a couple of days in the incubator. No need to rush to take them out. In fact, opening the incubator can compromise the unhatched pipped chicks. Don't worry if you can't get there until morning.

But, a BIG congratulations on your 2 babies!!

Keep on coming chickies...

I have 10 out of 21 Pekin ducklings that have hatched this 10 am this morning!!!!!!!

It was our first hatch and it was a bit rocky overall, but, with BYC there for support, we have made it through. Our ratio won't be very good though as only 22 out of 29 made it to day 24 and lost another to day 25 or so. Anyway, they are so CUTE! One will scream when I am not by the brooder and when I come, she climbs into my hand and goes to sleep...I try to leave.....she screams through the whole house. SO CUTE! I think I am in love!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe we finally have ducklings...too bad they are going to other people...I have fallen in love with them!
