Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

I candled everyone again tonight. Out of our First Set we have all the leghorn eggs, our little game hen egg, all but one EE and Only one bantam left. I tossed our mys. egg the other day (it had no development and the shell started to look funny) and one blood ring bantam. I pulled out one EE and the rest of the OEG bantam (minus the one good one) as they had nothing, just clear infertile. I have one more in there an EE that I think quit growing. I am going to give it a day or so and recheck, but compared to all others it has a lot less development in size.

Our of our five that we set the other day we have development in a few and just tonight I set one dozen duck eggs!

Congratulations, one week down, 2 to go...

You are so far ahead of me, I've candled some in the beginning of the week just to be sure I had some developing, but I haven't checked any since. I'm so tired but really want to see them before they get too big. Must do it tonight.... must resist falling asleep....

Well, the reason I checked them all is turning them the other night I bumped the bator and all went rolling. I am starting to see little formations in the leghorn eggs.

OK, finally candled all my eggs, today is day 8.

I removed 5 out of 9 of the SLWs, 4 were not fertile, no development at all but their membranes were all in tact, no scrambling. One of them had an embryo that made it 4 or 5 days, I could see the eye was not quite dark yet and the bubble for the midbrain was large and clear. I suspect 2 others to have quit because I didn't see any movement in them, they will likely have to go before lockdown. With this much developmental trouble I am thinking there may be poor breeding practices going on. It does not look like the post office messed these eggs up, they all looked good on arrival. So, I may have to inform the seller of my findings.

I took out 3 others, they were all orpingtons. 2 not fertile and one quit about day 7, I think; really recent, I could see the limb buds and heart really well, the entire embryo was encased in a membrane.

The rest look pretty good, lots of swimming babies bouncing around! And my broody hen's eggs looked good too, she's doing a great job with her eggs.

So, the reason I could not wait to candle my eggs any longer was that today I cracked one of the eggs under my broody. I was gently coaxing her off the nest,

alright, alright, I was accosting her and pulling her out of her nest, and one of the eggs rolled and cracked onto the door.

I felt so sad. Anyway, the egg wasn't completely cracked open but I thought I could see a little bit of yolk coming through a crack. I'm not sure how bad the internal damage is. I decided to try what I've read about other people doing. I lit a candle and dripped wax over the cracks to seal it up and put it in the incubator. Tonight when I candled, 10 hours after the accident, I could see a baby moving around inside!!!!!!!

Amazing. Who knows if it can survive.

uggh the waiting!!! We have 11 left in of the 15. One was infertile and the other 3 had early death. All of the 11 remaining are swimming around! The wait is killing me, can't wait to see the fuzzy barred rocks!

Hey Everyone! Can I join you? I have a batch of 18 bantam polish and 2 silkies due on the 4/6 and another batch of phoenix, americaunas, and polish due 4/13. The two batches are in separate incubators. This is my first hatch ever and I've been so nervous to post anything just in case it didn't go well. But, I've started seeing veining in most of them in the first batch! I can hardly wait to see all of your pics of your littles ones!!

welcome to the party chicken chickita

I keep looking at the calendar and thinking that we'll be hatching chicks about next wednesday, then I have to remind myself, no, it's 2 weeks away not 1.
