Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

For candling I use a mini mag light for my brown eggs. I just cup my hand to create a light tight seal and check out the eggs. The light is very bright and only requires 2 AA batteries. $6.95 at Walmart.

Did a day 14 candling tonite...
3 out of 4 Russian orloffs had movement and I think 4 out of 4 welsummers were moving.

I just hope they make it thru to hatch.

I'm still hoping the 1 RO is still viable
I'll check them all again on Day 18 before lockdown.
may have to go to walmart and get a minimag...those wellie eggs are a challenge.

I think it might be from the chicks themselves. As they get bigger in the shell they begin doing their own heat generating from their metabolism. It should be a good sign that they are growing well.

Anybody know anything about this?

Check out the broody threads that are going. You'll get a lot of info there. A lot of people like using a dog pen so that's a great idea. Momma can definitely keep them warm enough so no need to bring them inside. When you move momma, do it well after dark, she'll be less likely to get upset.

suechick i asked about this in a separate thread and someone told me it was not normal. i have managed (i think) to get mine back in the normal range. i have a very flexible schedule so i'm able to check often. i candled this am just to check and they all were still moving so i guess we are ok. have you looked at yours?
