We candled last night and this is pretty much what we saw on 11 of the 13 eggs including 1 out of 3 of my RIR eggs (darker shell). The other 2 RIR looked the same except the air space was really hard to see. Here is what seems weird to me. If the darker shell is the reason it is harder to see the air space, why would it be easy to see the air space on the 3rd RIR egg?

(the photo is from the "Egg Candling Pics" thread)

MY guess...larger air sac? I've seen them that way..some large, some small. Were these shipped?
That air sac looks really good. Nice and round..and, at the bottom of the egg! A lot of the shipped ones have the air sac going half way up the side of the egg...and sometimes on both sides. I've actually had chicks make it with them like that, but most of the time, they quit during the second week.

Again, this picture is showing a good looking air sac.

I had a for sure blood ring. Seven more I could see veins and then movement. Little black dot moving around.

Learning curve is killing me!

Today is day 16. Lockdown is Monday. Thursday is that target....

...if I'm counting correctly.

I set eggs in the late evening on the 22nd. So I am counting evening on the 23 as day one. So, tonight will be day 11. Wish I was as close as you! I'm killing me......

Something just dawned on me. I was informed the other day that a hen can lay fertilized eggs for 11-12 days after one visit from a rooster. I only waited a week or so to start collecting eggs for my hatch after I switched roos. I think this means that some of the eggs in my incubator may not be what I thought they were! Some of them may have banty Cochens for a daddy instead of RIR.
