Look good EXCEPT....zip tie that clamp to something! Don't take the chance that it might slip and fall in the brooder! People talk about it happening all the time.....just to be safe and not sorry!

its actually screwed in to the metal plate its just really hard to see as these pics are from my cell phone camera so are not very good
thanks for the advice

Yeah! It always scares me to see those lights clamped on!

I just put a wired cage part from another animal crate..put the light on top of that. It sits right in the middle of the wire..mine came from a rabbit cage..pretty thick, not thin, so is very sturdy. Can move the light around for them if I see them wanting less heat in the day..which works great for us right now, because we are still cold here at night. Put the light back in the middle for the night, they snuggle right up to the middle of it.
Doesn't take long though when it's time to reduce the light bulb to a lesser heat.

Ok, who said they learned how to get pictures on? I have been trying since I joined. I have done everything! I have down sized, I have the size they say I should have..I don't get it!!! I know I'm going through all of their steps right. Even had my son come over that is great with computors..says he doesn't know why it isn't working either.
Maybe you came up with something different?
If you have time, can you pm me your secret??

Thanks!

I ran into some trouble on lockdown. I put the eggs on coffee filters and I guess the filters got in the way of air flow. Suddenly the temp was down to 94. I did some rearranging and tweeked the thermostat a bit and I have it back at 100. It was scary for a bit though.

well, I have my first zip. Its a lavender Ameraucana but it has a single comb and not a pea comb. This is the second one out of 5 chicks so far. I may be getting out of the egg business before it really starts if they continue like this...

first of all you will need a BYC page -- note you need to have posted 10 or more comments to have one

look along the blue bar along the top in the community forum that says Index User list Rules Search My Page Profile Recent Posts Uploads Messages GFM Sponsors and Logout --

click My Page
it will create a page for you at the top it says This is your blog next to it click where it says Click to edit you will then see a page that looks like a microsoft doc lots of little icons dont bother with any of that click on the top where it says My Uploded Images where it says browse click like any other upload and choose the picture click submit and it will do it for you

here is the more complicated part (might not be complicated it could just be the way i do it lol)
once it is uploaded you will see underneeth the picture it has two boxes one says Thumb and the other Image left click and drag curser to highlight text in box then right click on it a box of choices will appear select copy from the menu

next open Microsoft word or notepad ect. (somewhere you can paste words)
right click on the blank page and from the menu select paste (i like to at this point make sure i type what picture it is a few spaces away from the copied text so i know later on) and save -- note it should look something like this

then your picture description like -- top view of brooder ect...

lastly go to desired forum
post reply like usual and open your word doc copy text starting and ending in
only (be sure not to copy your description of it too)
then right click and paste to your post and your picture should come up!

I have three D'Anvers pipped, two porcelains and a Mille Fleur. The MF D'Anver is pipped on the small end--I hand turned those so they have been on their sides all along. The first one to pip is crackling the egg around the pip so may be zipping soon.

Two of my eggs are moving around a bit, I hear a little clink every once in a while! I thought I was crazy, so I got up and watched for 5 or so minutes and saw it with my own eyes, very cool. I have a dozen polish due on 4/6 in my Brinsea Eco 20 and a dozen silkies due on 4/11 in a little giant. There are 5 polish looking like they will hatch and so far, and 5 silkies looking like they are growing nicely. A little disappointed with the hatch rate, hope the 10 all make it! Good luck fellow mamma's and daddy's!

You are not going nuts! Today we saw 2 eggs roll around, doing the happy chick dance. This is day 19 for 8 red and white Silkies. They are in a Brinsea Mini Advance EX with humidity pump and digital display. Hatch day is this Wednesday and it figures I have a Dr. appt that day. Hope we don't miss anything. This is my first incubator hatch and a real learning experience. I can't get my humidity up to the recommended 70% so that is a worry. I don't know if I should add water or what. It is running approx. 68% RH and I am hoping that is adequate. Everyone, please keep us updated. Thanks.

Just a little longer...

mkatz - Your chicks should be fine at 68%. I think anything from 60% - 75% is OK. I have mine at 65% it is difficult to control with any precision.

Nice to have an update Rebecca, I've been wondering what's been going on with you. What kind of pippies, um I mean puppies are they?
