Vaulted silkies are the ones with the open skulls. They have the bigger poofs when they are adults, but are prone to getting injured if they are pecked by other birds because their skulls never fully close. I will take a pic of a vaulted and nonvaulted for you as soon as I can open the bator. They look like they have a little acorn on their head.

I don't separate them. I usually have 50/50 hatches. With half being vaulted. I have only had 1 be injured, and she has a weird twitch. I assume that's what is wrong with her. It could be something else. I do NOT ever let them in with my big birds. They would be the ones to cause the most damage.

Bikerchic I wonder if my black silkie was pecked by the bullie australorp in the brooder? I have separated the bullie now and the chick had her head up and moving this morning and came and ate scrambled egg? So I am watching and waiting today...

I would put some vitamins in their water (if you have any) and watch her. I have been giving twitch extra vitamins and its not making a difference. She's not getting worse, and she doesn't do it if she's eating. Its like a neurologial thing to me, that's why I suspect a pecking injury.

I've been putting the roof on my run

!!! I have one more piece of fencing to get up and the run will be secure

! I had three eggs of CJ's beauties going last week but only ended up with one! One piped through a vein and did not make it and the third one had a detached air cell from the post guy's rough treatment and did not hatch! I'm working on 50 so the run roof has been really hard on my arthritis! When I come in from the effort all I can manage is supper and sleep
