Thanks! Luckily I have an autoturner and tomorrow they go into lockdown so I won't have to touch them too much, I will just make sure that that egg always gets handled last. Good advice.

Since my rotten egg experience I have also taken up the habit of using hand sanitizer between each egg I touch just to be safe. Yep, I think it's safe to say that I have scrubbed off at least 2 layers of skin by now, lol.

Sometimes I wonder where kids get these ideas from. That was about all the excitement I could handle in one evening!
lol.png

LOL That sounds like something my brother would have done when he was little - he once dumped an entire bottle of vegetable oil on our kitten (who threw up repeatedly after trying to lick himself clean, BUT he was remarkably soft until he passed away a few years ago)! I hope the little chicky does okay...

As an aside, because I'm obsessed with it now....hand sanitizer does not actually kill lots of common bacteria including E. Coli and the Mycobacteriums and tons more. The only thing my microbiology lab (I'm a full time student) found that it worked against was Staphlococcus Aureus, which is found naturally on the skin (it can cause what we people like to call "food poisoning" symptoms when proper hand washing technique isn't used). Soap and water is usually best - and you don't even really need antibacterial soap. Soap naturally causes bacteria to lose the ability to "stick" to your skin and it washes down the drain. Okay, okay...I'm off my soapbox. Ha! That pun wasn't even intended....

Oh, and BTW silkymom1986, awesome calender...it is officially saved in my Chicken Files!

How Sweet!!!!
Congrats on your new baby!!

I want a broody too!!!!!

I've been told with our little quail that the male will take his lady little treats instead of eat them himself. I can't wait to see that!

Thats what roos do too, if they find a good bug, they make this noise and all the hens come running, whoever gets there first usually gets it, except one of my roos has a favorite hen I swear because he will hold it in his mouth until that one gets there,

it is too cute!!

I think they are in love
love.gif

OH! How sweet! Bet the other girls don't like her much! LOL! I can just hear the gossip.

I've raised many birds over the years and just love the courting that they do. I have a pair of very in love English Parakeets right now, and hardly ever turn the TV on, i'd rather listen to them!

We are in the city, HOA on top of it and no roo's allowed. But are going to try and keep a Serama Roo as a house pet. They don't make any more noise than a macaw! So I don't see why not. Hoping!

Boy this web site sure went nuts last night!

When I was a small child my Dad had a huge tropical fish tank and my older brother (6) thought he would help out our Dad who was Stationed Overseas by making the "smelly" Fish tank smell better by dumping my Mom's talc and perfume into it

No.

I don't even have chickens....yet! We're planning on a last hatch of the year to give us time to build the coop (we're still talking materials - block or wood)
smile.png
I am in full research mode, though, so I love finding stuff like the calender. Just smack me if I go on too much about bacteria and disinfectants and stuff....I swear I am NOT germaphobic! I mean, splashing in mud puddles is still a favorite thing to do (not that we get them a whole lot in AZ). LOL I just love sharing information that I find out that I didn't know.

Good info, I always wash my hands before I handle the eggs, but started to get paranoid after I touched the rotten one. I am usually not so big on antibacterial things as I feel like we're not letting our immunities build up that way, but the eggs always worry me because I don't know what I could be transfering to them. Figured the only thing it would hurt was my hands, lol. Thanks for the info!

LOL, we have plenty of mud here is MS!! We go mudding on fourwheelers all the time!

Well your doing the right thing, researching and getting info instead of just jumping into it not knowing what your getting into, lots of people do that and don't know the responsibilities of keeping chickens! And always feel free to share info, some people might already know, but I guarantee someone will learn from it, I did!

I've been talking to a lady in Az. who keeps one in the house and it's working out great! She puts him out after 11 am to be with the girls and back in at dark.

I grew up on 5 acres, and wish I was still there! maybe some day!
