Anyone HATCHING?!?!? Newbie's and addicts WELCOME!!!! Hatch Calendar page 1!!!!

Glad to help! When I found it on the end of an aisle by the register, I realized how the light looked like it would fit perfectly against the top of an egg, and it does. When you're looking at book lights, try to find one that has the same kind of top as this one. I actually went back and got a second one as a backup.

We just loaded up our incubator with 288 eggs. Oh my, what was I thinking. haha I am new to this site and really like all the info.
We just got into chickens less than a year ago and are now totally addicted. Our flock of ten bantams have grown to over 300 standard breeds.
Love every one of them.

I think I might have persuaded my sweet hubby to buy me a sportsman cabinet

!!! He hasn't quite said Yes yet but it's looking more like a yes than a NO
gig.gif
!!!! A NHO would have been really definite and quick that fact that "He's still thinking about it" usually means Yes

Well I think I fail AGAIN on my second try

I was hoping there will be a surprise when I woke up. Twice they seem to died during the lockdown . I had temps at 99 and humidity around 71% There were never bothered during lockdown. I really dont know what happens there !. I have THREE more eggs in another incubator . They are due Feb 7th. I dont know how to prepare for them during the Lockdown.

If it fails again, thats the end of it for me. I am really sad !!!

I am sooo sorry!!!

What kind of incubator? If it's a still air try turning the temp up a little bit higher like 100 or 101. Also where do you live? Is your natural humidity really high? If it is the chicklets can grow to big to pip and zip. I dry incubate because of this. I don't add any humidity until I actually see a pip. Candle your eggs right before lockdown and check the aircell. It should be pretty good sized. If it's small it means you have too much humidity. I will try to find a pic to show you what I mean in just a little while.

its called little giant still air. I borrowed from a friend. Yes I candled on the 18th day before the lockdown. I had two wild looking eyes !! When I locked down. I did add water and humidty increased to 71 %. Somewhere there they didnt make it through. I have three more and feb 7th is thier due date. This time I will not add water. By the way. I dont have instructions for this incubator. Myfriend got it at a yard sell and she doesnt know how it works too !!...

I am sooo sorry!!!

Do you have an old fashioned mecury thermometer? They are way more reliable than digital

. A little bit of a drop shouldn't hurt if it wasn't for too long

I have the one that came with my genesis and that is dead on. Then I bought a hydrometer and calibrated that but that is what seems to be on the blink ! I took out the batteries and reset and it seems better but not sure.... I stuck a digital human thermometer in my hovobator to check and it seems to hold the temp rock solid.

I think the brinsea I used for lockdown was actually holding the temp but my stupid hygrometer was off. Still no eggs have hatched
hit.gif
In the brinsea and I'm not expecting any too. Can the move to a hatcher kill the eggs? I know people do eggtopsy will that really help me figure out what went wrong? Not sure I'll know what to look for and I'm sure it'll just make me sad to see full grown dead chicks....

My genesis is in lockdown due to hatch tomorrow night ish. I filled the channels per the instructions but my hygrometer is reading 79% !! I know that is high but I did a dry incubation for the 1st 18 days..... I'm not sure I should trust this faulty hygrometer, thank you radio shack, should I just trust the genesis instructions? I'd really like to have something hatch from this batch!

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.....
