Anyone Hatching on the 27th or 28th? - I Need Hatching Buddies!!

So sorry about the duckies! Any way you could find a couple babies and sneak them in there so it looks like you got something to hatch? I'd still leave the eggs in there for a coulpe more days. It must be too late to start over- with summer vacation and all.

I did an eggtopsy of the remaining eggs that didn't hatch and there where weveral that weren't fertile, a couplequit early and onejust died before it even pipped. The yolk was gone and it looked like it just had to start zipping itself out. A Blue Orp too.

One of my quail hatchlings has turned into Jeffrey Dahmer. But that another story for another subject.

I had 2 of my own mixes hatch sometime during the night. I have 1 big red hen that I don't know the breed of but she is bigger than either roo. The roo's wheren't particularly fond of breeding with her. I decided to put her eggs in the bator just to see If I could get some more big hens. She lays jumbo eggs. One of hers hatched last night and the barred hen I have hatched too. There where 2 of hers in there. That was before I knew it was her laying them.

Sorry no pics. My daughter got her camera back. I only borrowed it for a little bit.

Well the dust has settled and the hatch is over and I have 8 adorable

chicks out of 22 shipped eggs. Of 15 Welsummer eggs on day 18, 5 hatched. I cut the last one out of the shell after one died in the egg after zipping. Out of 7 Lemon Blue cochin eggs 3 hatched with one being stuck in shell and I had to peel him out. He still has shell glued to his back but is active and strong and the shell will go away in time.

I need to figure out, if I can, what contributed to so many failed eggs as I have 30 eggs total, from three BYC members, arriving the end of next week to try again. I have a new Hova-bator Genesis with egg turner and it seemed to be right on the money with temp and Humidity but there was some kind of chick release issue.

I really appreciate those who advised and encouraged me between 1am and 4 am.

Congratulations all with new chicks and ducks! It is more fun to have co-hatcher buddies. I will try my hand at posting pics tonight.

I don't understand what the problem ws with mine either unless it was from the shipping. The one that was done and ready to come out and never even pipped has me stumped. I can understand not being fertile but the dying part of the way though and at the end I don't get. I still have 13 quail eggs I'm hoping to get babies from. I did put some of my own in, about 6 I think. And I got 2 of those so far and there are some that sould be out soon if they are going to. I still got better odds out of my few than I have out of the 12 I won. I really think that sending them in the mail, they get shook up. It's unavoidable for them to be transpported flat and with care. If those postal workers where held liable for what gets broken they would be more careful. Too bad we can't insure eggs either.

I have babies!

So far there are 6 Cochin banties and 1 big Red Star. 3 more pipping. The cochins have speckled/flecked eyelids and beaks. Can you see the one that has the "mad eyebrows"?!? He's too funny!

There are now four fuzzy babies under my duck and at least one egg that's still peeping and pipping - not sure if the other two are progressing or not as Momma Duck gets REALLY hissy if I get too close to the nest at all so I'm trying not to disturb too much.

My first two attempts at hatches didn't go well - third time's a charm? Guess that doesn't help Miss D's class. I know my grandkids were pretty disappointed the first few times that ducklings failed to hatch here.

You're awfully quiet out the DouglasPeeps - is everything okay?

I know this is probably a dumb question, however at some point my teachers convinced me there IS no such thing as a dumb question so ... where do the eggshells go?
