Anyone have a hen or eggs set for October? Join us!

sweetlilbaby,
I have hatching eggs that I would willing to give to you for free on my part but you pay for shipping. If interested I tell you all that is ready now. I have had great hatches with my own; its my silkies that I am trying to establish that has been a little challange lately. I just ordered some fro Washington st but only had 6 hatch; but what did hatch was wonderful. Just wish I could of gotten a few of the other colors to hatch. Let me know if you choose to use the bator again anytime soon. My chickens that are ready are brown and blue layers.

How much would shipping be?

Sweet, sorry you're having so many problems with that ops eggs. If hes not feeding them right they wont hatch.
Feathered, what color silkies do you have and what colors are you wanting? Right now I have a blue roo with a blue, splash and red hen. I also have some white but they are little guys still. Maybe in the spring we can trade some eggs. Right now their not hatching good cause I'm not feeding layer food right now.

Hence the comment about that guys eggs. We are feeding co- op mixed food for the winter months. There is a big difference in my hatch rate then when I was feeding layer food. They are getting oyster shell on the side. The eggs are fine for eating. When spring gets here I will go back to layer feed.

His chickens are free range over a large property. So I'm not sure if he even supplements their diet with any sort of a grain. It's also why i think the eggs could be god only knows how old when I get them. And I know eggs that are old can develop but wont hatch because they were stored to long. Which could be the issue as well as diet, and other factors.

phonix912 I have 1 white, 2 blue (dark), 1 splash about 4-5 months old. New babies are 1por, 1 par, 1 blue/spash (dark), 1 self blue, 1 lav, and 1 spot without its spots.lol I want to breed show silkies so I need some of the same colors plus white, buff, spotted. Im just about finished building my breeding building for the silkies. I was hoping to have all that I needed by now so come spring Id have eggs and fuzzy butts and then let the games began. I may try to incubate once more before thanksgiving. You said red hen, do you mean buff, par or is there a class called red? I am learning as I go.

I'm not sure what the difference is. When we ordered we asked for blue and red. There are pics of them on my profile page. The are pics from this summer. Right now the blue hen and red hen are broody. They are sharing the same nest and fighting over 8 eggs.

I'm very, very disappointed to say but, my little broody Ember is not broody anymore. She sat for more then two months and I guess just gave up.

Maybe just maybe I can graft some chicks under her. Please keep your fingers crossed! Oh, but my other two broodys are doing great! Mixed breed eggs are due in five days!!

Broody hens doing great so far. They are due to hatch next between the 9th and 11th

I am using these plastic stackable containers that I found at WalMart they work great for the bantams and they seem to like them a lot hoping that they will be just what they and the chicks need as they have their own brood pen for safety from the flock and predators
