Cancer is always my least favorite word.....but stage 1 is so good to hear

A little more detail: The cyst is the size of a baseball (!) No wonder he had back pain. The cyst is a benign thing, but there was another growth on the cyst - that's where the cancer is. And it is renal cancer.

They feel a little hopeful because they found it sooner than expected because of that cyst. Today or tomorrow they will do a Pet scan to see if it had spread anywhere. *gulp* He is looking for a surgeon now.

My niece works in NYC at a big company and they are connected to Sloan Kettering. She is scouting around for info at which surgeons they recommend down in Fla. So far they don't recommend any of them down where he is located. (in his county) Maybe there will be one in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale or something.....

Worst comes to worse - he can come to NYC to Sloan Kettering and get the job done there.

You guys are the best.....thank you so much for the support. You wouldn't believe how it helps.

The Pet scan revealed no other cancer in his system! He's scheduled for the removal of the bad stuff on the 18th. They will save as much as they can on this kidney first, but if it's too difficult with all those blood vessels and such, they might just cut the whole kidney out and be done with it. The other kidney had a cyst, but it was benign.

And it was teeny, so they can watch that sucker and see how it goes.
