Anyone have any idea what breed this lovely lady might be?

They're rather rare, but I'd guess she's a Splash Marans. Could also be a Splash Andalusian with discolored legs.

The lady I bought her from said she was a blue marans but the pictures I had seen didn't look the same. Thank you so much!

Blue, that's what we've called her since she was 3 days old, laid her first egg today. It seems to fit with her being a Marans, right?

Yep, correct egg color for a maran

  8. Yes. Most blue birds (besides self blue, whole 'nother subject) come in blue black & splash. Her official title would be Blue copper Marans, but she is the splash shade of blue. Beautiful! Bred to a black rooster you'd get 100% blue chicks. But blue bred to blue yields 50% blue, 25% splash, 25% black.
Sorry, too much info, just thought you might like to know.

No. Thank you so much! I love getting all the info I can. Very interesting!

  10. Oh OK. :)
Breeding and genetics really sparked my interest last year, so I try to share some of the easily understandable bits.
One of my favorite birds was a blue copper marans, she was so pretty, so confident and clever.. Marilyn. Yours is gorgeous.
