Anyone have any questions about “Is my chicken laying an egg”? Because I know how to tell

Usually only around maximum a week?
If it lasts several days or a week, then it sounds like you could apply it any time of the day or night--if all the dye came out the first time they pooped, there's no way it would be able to color the eggs a few days later.

I'm glad to know that!

If you just have a small flock like us, we have different colored leg bands on each chicken, then we put a trail camera in our coop across from the nest boxes. Once or twice a day I'd pull the chip from the camera, look to see who climbed into the nest box, and check for eggs.

And I have a video for how to tell if a chicken lays and egg or not, but to explain it, you feel for there hips, 1-2 fingers, probably not laying. 3-4 probably laying. Then you look at there vent, a quarter size vent means probably laying and a dime sized vent means probably not laying.
Ha. This is hysterical, but so practical. Thanks

Just make sure you don't accidentally give them bubble gum or you'll have colored bubbles floating around the yard :)

Speaking of colored poop, If often wondered why some are fat sloppy and runny while others are more nuggetized, when they are all essentially locked in the same cage, eating the same thing. Might be a way to see who's the 'stool pidgeon' .

You are too funny!

Creative, but I've never been concerned enough about who's laying what to want to go through that process.

also, not sure if anyone’s mentioned this but don’t use red! chickens are attracted to it and might peck at the eggs or the vent of the chicken laying. like wise don’t use yellow because it will blend in and you might not see it. i used this method and the chicken wasn’t really laying so i’m not sure if it shows up but her vent was blue for a long time so there’s that

You just lay your fingers flat against their vent area between the two pin bones....you will feel them, they are sharp little bumps that stick out - "their hips". If you can lay one or two fingers in the space, not laying if you can lay 3-4 fingers in the space, they should be laying.
