Anyone have Blue Wheaten Ameracaunas?

I am afraid to order live chicks, though.

I would feel better ordering eggs, especially with the distance. And with the cost to ship them live. But I don't know, as difficult as they are to find, I may just have to do that!

Peachick - What do you have left? And would you be willing to ship me eggs instead in the spring? I worry so much about shipping just a few live babies.

Countryroad, There is a yahoo group called PoultryImprovementProject and they have been talking about Blue Wheaten Ameracauna's on there. I'll try and find the web address.

the chicks I have are 6-8 weeks old..... old enough to ship, but its pretty cold, so I wouldnt ship them now anyway.

I should have plenty of eggs in the spring.

you should know though that the wheaten and blue wheaten are often bread together.... so we get both colors in a clutch.

My origional hens are blue wheaten and my male is wheaten.

So if the Blue Wheaten and Wheaten are mixed, are the chicks still all recognized colors??

yes breeding wheaten to blue wheaten... the chicks are either wheaten or blue wheaten. I assume the reason they do this is because if you breed blue wheaten to blue wheaten, you get splash wheatens..... a non recognized color.

That's true... but if you do have a splash, you can breed it against a black and get all blues, isn't that right?

Ah! I forgot about the blue x blue rule. So, if I wanted to breed a recognized color, I would need a Blue Wheaten roo and a Wheaten hen. Or vice versa. Right? I would love to be a part of preserving this breed, its very unusual.

Monty - I found the Yahoo group you were talking about, I applied to join. Thanks!

I will have bantam wheaten/blue whaeaten eggs available when the weather warms a little. I'm only getting one egg a day, and have 2 orders to fill when the girls start laying for real, but if you can wait , I should be able to help.

Wyldehorses - Put me on your list please! I prefer bantams because they eat less, but the standards color is beautiful too. Let me know when you're getting more eggs, and if I haven't found anything I will buy. Thanks!
