Thanks, watching and waiting like the proud papa. My first attempt at hatching. I have a brood box, chick starter medicated, and chick starter feed. I am fifty three years old on Wednesday and i haven't felt this excited about something for awhile, crazy huh? My only child my daughter will never have children so this is as close as i'll get to grandchildren.
AWESOME and HAPPY BIRTHDAY

How are everyone's chicks/eggs doing?

Broody Mama #1 and her babies are doing great! The babies are growing beautifully already and Mama does a great job keeping them fed, warm, and safe. It's so sweet to watch! I'll try to get a good pic soon!
Broody Mama #2 on the other hand is doing a horrible job. She's apparently getting bored with this whole "broody thing" because she won't stay on her eggs, and she's squished 2 of them. More often than not I find her off her nest with stone cold eggs left behind. They are probably dead. :( I've toyed with the idea of getting her some chicks, but I'm afraid she would be a bad mother. I may let her out and try to incubate the eggs if they are still alive. Not sure yet.

My mamas are doing very well. I think they have taken on the job of being a mom together.

Look at all those babies!

final count of 30 eggs..27 hatched one died and 3 failed. It was way too many for the 2 hens so I pulled in 12 to brood inside and left each of them with 7 here are a couple of pics.
