Anyone have Cochins?

mine tend to be feather eaters.. mostly from my polish heads.. I walk in on them and it is my cochins that are gathered around a polish pecking the feathers and eating them strait off of their heads..

Mine havent layed yet.. they are 18 weeks old tomorrow.. so I am waiting for some eggs.... but I expect the cochins to be the last to lay..

In this fabulous pic you see one of my partridge Cochin hens (Daria) babysitting a couple of Barnevelders and a Welsummer. This is after she molted, so she looks a bit bedraggled.

Decent layers, I usually get an egg every other day. They seem to go off-lay when moved around to new coops or otherwise surprised, but then they make up for it with daily eggs for a couple weeks. Very good broody hens, they are awesome babysitters. Daria kept trying to sit on these girls until long after they were fully feathered. Sometimes I catch her sitting on a smaller Buttercup hen who is the same age. Saves me a lot of work, I never mess with a brooder box for longer than a week or two--I just put 'em in with a Cochin hen.

Here is Lucifer (he is the sweetest thing, he just looks mean)
He is calm and loves to talk and he comes when you call him

And here is Coccolina (meaning "Little Cuddles"), she died a few months back. She was the sweetest thing I've even known. She was a bantam partridge Chochin.

Here's a baby picture of both of them

I've got a banty cochin. She was about 2 months old when I got her, so she's not as friendly as I'd like. She is pretty talkative and is the most attentive when it comes to noticing potential birds of prey, neighbor cats, and when the flock isn't all together (more like when the other 3 leave her behind). She's about 5 months old now but hasn't started laying yet. I'm not sure at what age banties start to lay, so I kind of figure she'll just start when she feels like it!

I have 5 Cochins, standard size. They have not started to lay yet. They are beautiful birds. I have 2 Buff, 2 Blue and 1 Black. The Blues and the Black are the nicest feathered.

I have one silver laced cochin that hatched on April 4. She hasn't started to lay eggs yet, but she is very sweet. My DH says she could be a "therapy chicken" as she is very nice to hold!
