I just candled my shipped Sussex eggs and all 10 were clear, It is day 7, I broke open 2 and they weren't even fertilized, But I put the other 8 back under Misty and will re-candle in a few days and see if anything is happening then If nothing happens I guess I will toss them too and chalk it up to experience. Well, thats got to be disheartning for sure. I hope you didn't pay too much for them.

Of my 28 eggs that were locked down..20 have hatched as of today..yesterday was day 21. One critter died ..she had some stuff still hanging out of her that dried up and then she died..i did not know how to help her so i just shielded her from being stompled by her siblings and left her in the warmth of the brooder, and prayed for a fast and painless exit from her brief existence. My issue is that there is one other who seems to have the same problem, and I am wondering if anyone has ever saved a chick from this type of problem or if there were suggestions for helping her? My only idea is to put a bit of neosporin or vaseline to keep it from drying so that if her body could correct the problem it wont dry out before it can fix itself?

I don't think I've yet encountered that problem.. buuuuut I deffinately think that vaseline sounds like a great idea!

I had that happen recently with a friend's eggs. There were four chicks hatched with part of the yolk sac unabsorbed and hanging out. I just let it dry up and it came off and then cleaned them up. Just keep them away from the others if possible so they dont peck at it.

Hey do any of u know how to feed a baby dove? Can they eat Kaytee Exact hand feeding formula for the first week? i heard they need dove milk but my pet stores dont carry it. The dove eggs are hatching now and im going to have to feed them tomorrow night after they run out of the absorbed yolk. I pickd up a jar of this feeding formula, ive used it many times but it was on differnt baby birds like blue jays and mocking birds. Ive never actully raised new born doves

My DH has eggs in the incubator. This is his second try. He's still learning, hehe. Last year we had a couple hens go broody and let them do their thing but he wanted to try the incubator so we'll see how this goes.... I don't know the date they're due just that they're "due soon". Ha!

If anyone has a link to an article about incubating I would greatly appreciate it, or tips. Thanks! (I hate wasting eggs!)
