ANYONE HAVE EGGS DUE!! CHARTS ON PAGE ONE POST ONE!! NEWCOMERS WELCOME!!!

Are there other signs would make it an obviously bad egg other than one having a bad odor?

Weeping or oozing through the shell.

I had some eggs that I worried because the chick seemed so small inside the shell. They were alive so I locked them down. After the three days most of them hatched fine, they really caught up during those three days.

Weeping and oozing... ewwww! That sound quite disgusting & stinky.

I definitely don't have nor do I want that going on. Might make it hard to eat an egg for a while.
All of the shells look great on the outside. When I candled, 1 was totally clear & I tossed it leaving me with 16. There were 2 porous eggs and 8 other eggs that are questionable. I didn't see definite developing chicks on day 14 just some dark shadows that didn't seem as big as the others that I knew were good eggs. All I can say is "10 of these are not like the others." It could be that they started to develop and then stopped because I know I saw more than 6 eggs with veins on day 7 than what I can tell now. In fact, on day 7 I got excited to see that so many had survived the postal delay mishap. Sometimes that expensive 2 day priority mail can take 5 days! Before lockdown tomorrow, I had planned to candle them again this evening when HD can give me a germ-free helping hand. I'll show him the photos of egg candling, let him sniff those eggs real good, and he will help me make those choices, I'm sure. Especially when I tell him of "The Ooze".

I'll let you know what we determine from the 16 that are currently in there. Hatch day is Friday 4:30pm.

How often do you all tend to wait until you pull the chicks out?
I've got about 6 now, with one more coming out. The first chick didn't get out of the shell until last night.
I know the chicks can make it for 2-3 days in there fine, just wasn't sure from others' experience how long is usually about all that are going to hatch after day 21 hits...

My girls are being annoying. They dont like their new nest box and insist on laying their eggs in the nest with my broody. They will kick her out lay their egg and then she goes back. I am having to go out there take out the eggs with out markings on them.

Will I disturb the eggs by moving them? I know the mama moves and turns them, but when I take them out to see if they are marked or not, or to candle, I worry that I am disrupting the process.

I have a dozen black sumatra eggs in lockdown starting today. I can't wait until they hatch Thursday! I got the Hovabator Genesis 1588 with the new electronic thermostat, fist time setting eggs in it.

I have eggs due on Friday also! I set 35 chicken eggs of which I think about 15 are developing (shipped eggs) and I set 36 quail, who knows, they are too small to candle easily.

Well that is exciting, Deb! My eggs were shipped and sent to the wrong city so they got bump even more than usual. Hopefully our chicks will survive that postal trauma. I'm delighted that I have a few viable ones left and can hardly wait for the hatch. I just hope that they wait until I get home before they arrive. I teach on Fridays and I don't want to miss all the excitement here at the house. Can't wait to see your photos! Especially the quail. Daddy & I raised them when I was just a little girl. He recalls the day I bumped the brooder and it fell to the floor and we spent a good while chasing those cute little quail chicks. Just adorable they are!
Wishing you all success with your hatch.
