yeah, pretty messy..ugh, my new bator is now nasty

Yes, this is my first time incubating... purchased 2 slightly used 'bators (little giants) and read every online article I could find! lol.. I even bought a book.. just when you think you know everything about your chickens... =D I got a mixed dozen from a fella down the road.. and he gave me 11 free ontop of that.. so it's my "test" run.. The only thing I dislike about the 'bators is that they don't come with a thermometer or humidity thingy.. so I had to buy digital ones at walmart.. but it all worked out because before these I had aquarium thermometers which I couldn't see all that well.. so now i can read them clearly with digital ones without having to open the incubator.

the kids are due between the 1st or 2nd of April.. I set them in about 4-5 p.m. so... I didn't know really when to expect their arrival..

I had my first o'natural baby the day after i set my eggs.. mommy was ameraucana daddy is barred rock/orpington should be an interesting baby... lol looks all ameraucana. <3 have a silkie setting on some jersey giant eggs to the same roo... hope to hatch between now and the 24th

don't expect them right on time, some might come early, some a little later. Hope you have a great hatch! I have an LG also and had to buy a humidity thing, but I had a pretty good 1st hatch, of the 10 that were actually fertile, only 1 didn't develop and all 9 that went into lockdown hatched :) they hatched on 3 different days.

too cool

Oh, is that normal if they don't all hatch the same day?.. I should expect "delayed" eggs....? How long should I wait on them to hatch before I toss them? I don't have a light or anything for candeling.. so I'm just going to experiment without one.. probably for the best since all the eggs are colored... and I have no clue what to look for... I'm sure there are a thousand and one tips on here.. but I'd be so scared to accidentally toss a good one.. then I'd feel bad... so I figured.. whatever hatches... hatches.. and what doesn't... will make good soil enhancement in my compost pile..

the chicks are knocking over the other eggs. and they still havent dried. humidity 65. how long do they take to dry? some other eggs have piped!

yeah, it's normal. I used a lamp, a tissue box with a small hole cut in the middle over the lamp and put the eggs over the end..very bright wattage bulb..on colored eggs I wouldn't expect to see anything til about 10 days I guess. You'd see movement by then. Umm I really don't know how long to wait, mine were all hatched by day 22. Someone with more experience could prolly help you out on that one.
