Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

BTW, when we say roaster, remember that old black and grey roasting pan grandma had, that's your best weapon... low and slow with stock in the bottom.

My favorite piece of cooking apparatus

Wow! That must have been quite the deal! We live in New Mexico and my husband LOVES tamales for the holidays. I didn't grow up here so I don't really get it

Memories of all the family coming together to make them. Even the little ones.its so much work and the house would be so warm from cooking. The meat took the longest until mom bought a huge awesome pressure cooker! My grandmother's canned tamales were even cooked in it.

And we also had the traditional holiday meals on top of that.

Hey everyone, I'm still here!

I haven't gotten any updates from the thread so I didn't know any of this was happening. I'm still getting kicked off so catching up is not easy. I'll try to get on my computer this evening and see if that helps.

Does anyone know if or how I can edit the thread title to let people know the outcome of this thread up til this point? That will save them from having to scan all the THOUSANDS of (awesome, pure gold) comments throughout.

Any ideas!?

I don't think you can because you aren't a premium member.

Tell DH turkeys are like big feathered dogs.;)
The first time I ever got up close and personal with turkeys was on a 4 yr old pre-k field trip with one of my boys.
We got out of our vehicles and were supposed to wait by the barn as a group until "the farmer" came to greet us.
He came out and gave us a little talk then asked the kids if they wanted to meet his friends.
He let himself into the pasture and shut the gate separating him from us.
He let out a holler and about 200 turkeys came running up over a hill to greet him.
It was a herd of turkeys!
You could tell what an exemplary life they'd had and how much he cared for them.
Still in the top 10 of "best ever fieldtrips"
