Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

FINALLY got DH around to doing a deep litter... in their coops and in the run! We have the TSC diy coop kits, which will work for the next year, until we get the 13x15(?) coop built! I convinced him we COULD remove the poop board from under their roosts, because all it does is collects poop RIGHT IN their sleeping/nesting area. We got sawdust down in their coops and in the run. Check it out!!!

We also got DHs sawhorses out of their run and gave them a pool ladder to roost on. Dh is THRILLED!!!

The new girls..... kinda tore up... the one with no tailfeathers we have quarantined alone. We're gonna give her an epsom bath tomorrow and get some blue kote on her.

DH was SUPER PISSED when he went into their *coop* to get them.... There was a thick, soupy layer of chit.... and it was just RANK inside there.... he couldn't breathe.... we got the girls into the car... and he goes YUP... we shoulda got them yesterday!

If you're going to quarantine her alone I personally wouldn't bother with the Blu Kote. Poor thing looks like a heavy molt with some stress picking.

Vetericyn and some antibiotic ointment or VCO on those broken bleeding feathers would be good.

So glad you rescued them!

We're only gonna quarantine her from the quarantine until tomorrow, when we can give her a soak and blue kote..... she's in a large dog kennel for now, just to give her a break from the other biddies! We had already hit TSC today and couldn't head back, as we needed to get the new girls home and settled, get the run sawdusted, get the house tidied up for PICs sleepover with his bff, and put a few touches into the quarantine area. We needed nesting boxes for 5 more girls... heh... I'm so happy right now!

Ah. Gotcha. I was thinking you were going to try and keep her separate. A good cleaning and some Blu Kote is in order if she is to stay with her sisters. :)

Thank You everyone for your kind words.

My biggest concern is for my pets. Chickens included of course. Winter is fast approaching and attempting to find a place and move is not ideal. I'll do what I have to to keep my little family together. (Minus 1 that is.)

Can't the one move instead of you and the menagerie? Seems like it would be easier that way. Perhaps we can find some chicken/pet fosters until you get settled somewhere....

I can't afford to stay here alone. It's also WAY more work then I can manage.

Not to mention it's where "we" lived. I can stay until I find something but I'd rather move on.
