Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Well Chicken Peeps I need some good mojo. Thoughts and prayers to the chicken gods. I don't know what else. Anything you want to send my way through the universe.

I have to move. Need to find a place for me, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 15 chickens. A rather daunting task.

After 12 years together, my relationship is over. I'm not going to go into to details but to say I'm scared shitless for my future is an understatement. How I'm ever going to do it alone I don't know. I've got great family and friends with me but I could use all the positive energy I can get.

Don't mind me if I'm scarce around here. I'm trying to pick up the pieces of my life.

Thanks for reading my post and sending good vibes my way.

Ok my friends....I think my D'uccle is egg bound. She has been standing in her nest box on and off all morning and when I had them out to free range this morning she wasn't herself. She was standing around a lot. She is usually very busy. She is approximately 1 year old. She has been laying about 5 days a week but has slowed up recently. I'm assuming due to shorter days. Her comb is nice and red and she is eating.

Warm Epsom salt bath is what I've always read. Sometimes people say an extra boost of calcium can help. The old lubed finger to check is another common suggestion.

I'd try the warm soak first. Have a hair dryer ready to make sure she's totally dry before she goes back out. It's not exactly warm here.

Good Luck. Hope she lays that egg.

That's just a bad customer service & clueless self-absorbed people thing.
Feminism is what lets us women have our own money & a truck so we go get lumber without asking permission from our husband or father.
If I was there, I'd totally ask you if you wanted help!

I'm convinced its geographical. When I lived in DC there was no chance anyone would help you... Here they stalk you to be sure you have help if you need it.

The warm bath is good advice. Keep her in a quiet place, warm. For one day, wait and watch is OK. There is a calcium shortage a lot of the time, keeping the contractions from being strong enough to expel the egg. My vet gave Calcium Glucconate after Dylan was egg bound. It is at tractor supply: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/durvet-calcium-gluconate-500-ml?cm_vc=-10005
I keep it on hand now.

I've heard of somehow giving them calcium tablets??? Would I dissolve in water?

So, was it this thread that we were talking about the lady bugs? I hope so...

One of DWs friends suggested a peppermint oil tincture to keep them out of the house. I had a squirt bottle about 3/4 full with ACV water, and I have garlic tincture for the birds. So took a 1/4 cup of garlic tincture and mixed in two eye droppers full of peppermint oil, then added to the ACV water. Sprayed all the window and door cracks inside and out. AND IT WORKS! They've quit coming in the house.

X2 my friend!

I missed the post where you said how you came to rescue these lucky birds? :D

Quick recap: I went on an errand to a mulch *supply* place. They had 2 enclosures out back where they were keeping 8 chickens (thought it was 6). They asked if I wanted them and I said yes!

I loaded all the wood by myself into my cart, and little irritated that a worker that passed by me TWICE didn’t offer to help. A stranger asked if he could help me load it on my trailer. Very kind, but an EMPLOYEE didn’t offer to help!!! YES, I could have found someone if I really needed help. I am just sayin. And pressure treated wood is heavy. Dang! 8- 16” and 9- 12” 2X4’s.

I blame women for this. Feminist movement. Men and women are equal in value, but our differences should be celebrated. Women need to give men their pen!s’s and their BALLS back, because is blocking the entrance to the Vajay-jay’s! Ain’t nobody winning! I am seeing a bunch of immaculated men and that sure ain’t attractive!
Sassysouth, sound off!

Sound off sistah!!!!!!! Sick of these friggen femiNAZIS ruining my delicate nature in the name of *equality*. Phuck that!!! I don't want to be equal!!! I wanna be the girl, have DH open my doors and do the labor stuff. Hell, we were at TSC today, and DH slung a bag of scratch for this little old lady.... went out to her car and put it in there for her too. Now HE is a man!!!

Super good vibes, and I'm sorry to hear that sweetie. Hell, I found out my X was gonna be my X by his chaplain calling me... never heard from the coward directly!!!

This is very good to know.... for some reason, a bunch of lady bugs are currently congregating on our bedroom window screen. Very weird, as this hasn't happened before....
