Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I will be signing off early tonight.
Hubby being on call and the snow means no one got much sleep last night.....him least of all.
He was out towing a stolen/wrecked car then one out of a lake in the middle of the night and back at it before 6am.
He is not a young pup either at 59. He has been wet and cold all day.

All you all have a great night.

Oh and I checked the Orpington eye. It looks OK. Her comb was bleeding but had stopped. She is nestled down next to Bossy Betty the biggest Australorp so will be OK tonight.

Tomorrow I will keep an eye on behavior.
Sleep tight

Well HAPPY Late Birthday!!!!

All you people and your 62 degrees :barnie.

I got up to at least 4 inches of the S word. AND it is still falling. The forecast was on target in the morning yesterday. The evening forecast was WAY off. I left the sides of the hoop run up and now may have to shovel it out too.

I am going to finish my coffee th:):)en gear up to shovel me a path to the birds.

I will get a couple of pictures for you warm weather folks so you can see what yer missing.
:tongue

It was 70 yesterday and 50 today and tomorrow in the 40's with rain. I might not get out of bed until 10 or 11 just for sh!ts and giggles.

Yep. That's egg #2.... while turning them on Saturday, I dropped another egg on top of it, cracking it. This is my 2nd cracked egg, and I've only had 2 sets of eggs to incubate (1 under Xena).... so, incubating might not be in my cards... UGH

I got these from a member of BYC, named SIMZ. She sent me 15, 2 were discarded for being duds already, the rest are either good (look to be growing), good with movement seen, and 1 unsure (egg is too dark to see through). Our indoor incubating has been a VERY bad thing so far... having gone through 3 incubators that the auto turner broke within 24 hours, or arrived broken from Amazon. We're now in the process of building an incubator.

Seeing snow like this, makes me wanna switch my girls back over to dry feed.... ha!!
R the dark brown ones chocolate marans

I don't have a Wheaten rooster. If you want Wheaten Ameraucana crossed with Swedish Flower you're in luck.

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!:plbb

I'm ok with some snow but feet at a time is too much. Being an Ohioan I think we have a good weather mix.
We get a mild earthquake every 20 years or so. Tornados every 8-10 years. No hurricanes or haboobs. There are definitely places that get more snow too so I try not to complain. But boy is it hard not to sometimes! :p
Darn I am planning on hatching some black and self/blue Ameraucana eggs come spring but I might have to cull half my big flock first. The freezer is getting low.

Well today has been a day of good news.

My 16 month old son finally seems to be getting better. His fever disappeared after his nap this morning! He's still fussy and clingy, but at least he isn't still burning up.

And I got the check from the livestock auction and it isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought. I thought my trios had sold for $9 and $8 a box. Except the bidding price wasn't per box, it was per head. So the Delawares sold for $27 and the New Hampshires sold for $24. After the auction took their bit (25% + $1 per box), I got $36.25. Which really isn't near what the birds are worth, BUT much better than the $10.25 I thought I would be getting. I was hoping to at least buy another bag of feed with the proceeds. This covers a bit less than 1.5 bags of feed. So I'm happier about my experience. Not thrilled, but I feel much better about the whole thing.
Yay, on all accounts. :celebrate:yesss:
