Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I just got home and I already have an update!

I went straight to my coop to check on some biddies and I hear crowing. I see all my roosters in front of me and none are crowing. I look at the woods and I SEE THE SQUATCH!

Squatch sees me and books it into the woods again, all the while there's crowing further back in the woods. So there's now presumably a Mr. Squatch.

They have definitely been eating the food. It's gone. Granted my birds probably helped. But she was out there poking and scratching around. I'll continue feeding them there and eventual put the food in traps and hopefully trap them.

And she IS a red bird with a white tail.

I've never heard the rooster before so idk where he's been this whole time. Maybe they're young and he just started crowing or maybe he was born out there and she hatched him out. I have no idea. Or maybe she and Mr. Squatch were drop offs. :/

Going back Squatching!!

This thread is amazing! Mr and Mrs Squatch!!! :lau I wish you the best of luck catching them! Thanks for keeping us updated:pop

Wow! I had a pullet living in the woods for 3 days. She was half wild to begin with, one of those chickens that freaks out if you get too close. Anyhow, I put out a hav a heart trap and went to check it, she was in it. Unfortunately, chickens don't weigh enough to spring the trap. I had to gather a bunch of people together, we had long fishing pole nets and we entered the woods from all different locations and slowly closed her in between us all, until we could get her. I rented the hav a heart trap from a feed store for 5$ for 3 days.
