Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Still catching up.

@raecarrow so sorry about your little guy

@rjohns39 what powdered milk do you recommend

I think it is Cry Baby (1/3 black Silkies) that is acting cold. She is 8 weeks old, but has always been behind the others that are double her size. She always cried a lot as a baby (like Diane) and used to walk funny. So, whatever is going on has been going on since birth

My chicks have been sitting in OHIO since yesterday. I am so not happy!!!

Some how I messed up that reply.
Did it feel like a horrible muscle spasm deep inside your throat/esophagus ?
...make you unable to even swallow spit or it would trigger it to get tighter?
If muscle spasms feel like contractions yes... i could feel them coming on then going away.

I've been away...spent yesterday taking a "chicken class" and decided to not cook dinner and order pizza instead.
I woke around 11pm with horrible heartburn...
Then..
DH tried to murder me last night with a glass of baking soda and water for the heart burn.
I have never felt like I was going to die before last night.
Horrible horrible spasm things that about killed me.

I have been sacred to eat or drink anything all day...afraid that pain would come back.
Looks like I just found a painful diet plan!

Woot!

I'm plagued with middle of the night heartburn after eating certain things. Pizza, spaghetti etc.
two things have helped.
A wedge pillow!!!! And
I take 400 mgs of cimetidine (otc Tagamet) as soon as I get home or before I go to bed on those nights I've been bad.
It helps a lot.
My DH has a hiatal hernia, GERD, Barrett's esophagus, and a host of other things.
He's on omeprazole for life.

Y'all are gonna think I'm nuts, but I SWEAR on my life, this works for GERD, heartburn, acid reflux, the works....

Do a shot of raw apple cider vinegar. And then rinse your mouth out with water. It's gonna BURN like nothing you've ever felt before for about 15 seconds... and then relief.

This works in 99% of the gerd problems I have. Drs had put ME on Omeprazole *for life* as well, until I studied up on it and noted.... it doesn't stop heartburn... it stops the stomach pump that produces acid... which means that your food isn't getting the stomach acid it needs to break down your food... which helped me gain a TON of weight. Pissers.

So, I use ACV and, on the occasions I CAN'T solve it with ACV, I take ranitidine. It's more of an emergency bandaid instead of an out and out war on stomach acid. It gets you past whatever caused the heartburn, instead of shutting your stomach down altogether.

So, here's my follow up post: Right around the time we got our first chickies in February, we decided we were going to keep mealworms as well. Unfortunately, I didn't set it up correctly, and I neglected them until they died...... or so I thought.

I was supposed to clean out the mealworm drawers several months ago, but kept forgetting. I got near the cabinet today, and it looked... well, like it was moving... so I opened the drawers.... and everything in them was just moving all under the frass... so, I cut a potato in half and put each half into a drawer... and THIS is what happened within 30 minutes:

I'm gonna have to figure out how I can get the worms into a new batch of chicken food so they keep reproducing. This was AMAZING to me!!

Smuv..I have never had this heartburn crap before and let me tell you I don't even want it again.
Would the ACV stop the spasm things I was having if I were to take a swig while I was having them?

If this happens to me again I will be seeing a MD..ain't no way in the world I want to go through that again.
It was really that bad.
Me crying: Hey Mexican wake up..something is NOT right. (Thinking I was having a heart attack)

What I described is something that has happened to DH off and on for years.
"Esophageal spasm"
His was related to GERD/BE. It is worse when he's under a lot of stress.

Sometimes it would happen in the middle of dinner and it would scare us all! sometimes it would just happen for no reason. Sometimes if he went to yell at one of the kids it would happen. He does not have a loud voice.
He found that if he left the room and just was calm and quiet for an hour or so it would subside, but sometimes it would last for a day or two, making it hard to eat or drink.
Finally when he had his last colonoscopy the GI doctor said he was going to do an endoscopic procedure while he was under the anesthesia for the other end. Lol.
They "stretched" his esophagus and put him on the omeprazole to get a handle on the acid sloshing up at night. Barrett's esophagus runs in his family.
He hasn't had another episode of this since the treatment and wasn't even sore afterwards. I know that's been a relief to him because it was very frightening.

I'm hoping this was a one time thing that happened to me last night..but yes it sounds like what your DH went though..
I was actually asleep and it woke me up..the spasms lasted a long long few hours.

I was scared to eat and drink all day but did a little while ago. I will not be eating anything else tonight, afraid to wake up to that pain again. Thanks.
