Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Oh the pterodactyl screech! I have a girl that only does that for other hens and a girl that only does it for me.
Neither of them broody. Can't imagine what it would be like if they were. I'd need earplugs and leather gauntlets to go in the coop!
I have a broody screecher right now. Such a drama queen!

Saurkraut balls
  • 1/2 lb spicey sausage
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 16 - ounce can sauerkraut
  • 2 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 8 - ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 jalapeno finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons finely snipped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon sweet-hot mustard
  • Dash garlic salt
  • Dash pepper
  • 1/3-1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/3-1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • Cooking oil for deep-fat frying

directions
  1. In a large skillet, cook sausage and onion until sausage is brown, breaking sausage into small pieces. Drain.
  2. Drain sauerkraut, pressing out as much liquid as possible. In a large mixing bowl, combine sauerkraut, sausage mixture, the 2 tablespoons bread crumbs, the cream cheese, parsley, jalapenos, mustard, garlic salt, and pepper. Cover and chill for at least 3 hours or up to 4 hours.
  3. Put flour in a shallow container. In another shallow container, beat eggs and water until combined. Put bread crumbs in a third shallow container.
  4. Using about 2 tablespoons for each, shape sauerkraut mixture into balls. Roll balls in flour, then in egg mixture, then in bread crumbs. Fry a few at a time in deep, hot fat (365 degree F) for about 2 minutes or until brown. Remove from fat with a slotted spoon; drain on paper towels Makes 24 to 30 balls.

I'm jealous... Level ground:he Can't wait until I get the shelves on my little mountain cleared. My current pastures are on a significant slope. Need one leg longer than the other to navigate.:barnie
I'm with you, the only flat areas we have are "West Virginia flat" and they are hay fields, horse paddocks and the immediate area around the house. My little PVC run often has holes under the bottom I need to plug with rocks in order to keep chicks from escaping. I also have an 8X10 PVC pipe bachelor pad with 5 roosters in it. I have it set so my roosters can't get out. They are Delawares and New Hampshires, so they are large roosters. One afternoon one of my small leghorn cross hens squeezed in. Boy, she regretted that decision right quick. All 5 roosters jumped her. Fortunately, I was outside and heard my Alpha rooster making a ruckus and pacing along the run side trying to get in. I then saw the roosters all ganged up in a pile and thought they had gone after each other. As I was bolting for the run, the hen found her way out of the rooster pile and made a run for their coop. I managed to get her out safely with only a superficially scratched back. I'm glad I was there because they could have killed her.

This is a picture of their setup, but with other chickens in it. I've put a new tarp and tighter wire on the sides since.

I too am a 12 year old boy trapped in a 49 year old woman's body. Gross words, foul body noises & smell always make me laugh. Can't help myself :lau.
I'm a 12 year old old boy trapped in a 32 year old woman's body. I'm the one teaching my 15 month old son to blow raspberries, stick out his tongue, blow spit bubbles. I'm also the parent who throws him in the air and swings him around. I guess that is what comes of being the oldest of 5 kids. I know how resilient they are.

I KNOW RIGHT?!?!?! Plus, it helps I have 2 boys, 8 (mine) and 11 (borrowed from the neighbors). And a 40 y/o DH who is *12*! I get daily noise, smell, sounds and sentences like *WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT!!!*, followed by peals of laughter..... I either laugh along or I'd go nuts.

TAG ME when you post this. I have a story about my adopted dog(s) too!

I guess about 2 months ago, I saw a post on FB of this sweet little dog that needed a home. I got the dog home and put her straight in the tub, she was so infested with fleas, that she barely had hair on her back. When the water ran over her, she cried. I tried to rinse the soap off and the water turned coffee brown. I couldn’t get the soap out, so I took her to the backporch and scissor cut her for 4 HOURS! I am scared of using the clippers and didn’t know what I was dealing with.
This poor dog had fist sized mats hanging all around her face, ears and stomach. Her feet were encased in mats and those mats where attached to her stomach mats!! They pulled when she walked!
We named her Mattie. The vet thinks she is about 12. As best I can tell she is deaf and someome loved her at some point because she knows tricks and is so precious!! I will post some pics and videos. I have another video, but I cannot find it.
