Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Updates:

I checked the cams and no Mrs. Squatch. Hoping she's just out there somewhere hatching out some next generation Squatchlings.

I did see an armadillo.

I also heard coyotes for the first time in the 8 or so years I've lived here.

On another note: Here's to all of our loved ones :hugs

I'm so thankful for everyone here, sharing our stories, our love of food, and holding out hope with me.

I feel like I've made so many new friends.

I just want to say thanks again.
Me too!
It's nice to have friends. :hugs

Y’all!!!! I am not good at letting chickens sort out the pecking order! Especially when the new ones are smaller. I feel so stupid! I am so tempted to take these small ones back and get larger ones, if she would even let me??? What should I do? There are still 4 Silkies their size and 2 are larger. I know soon they will all be the same size, it is just a matter of time. In my own little perfect worldly mind, all chickens are BFF’s! :barnie
Somewhere awewk or so ago someone posted a link to a (BBC) Scottish documentary called:
The Private Life Of Chickens.

It was on you tube. It was an hour long and really informative.
A lot of it was about the pecking order.
It made me feel less worried about squabbles - not that mine really fuss, which is why it isn't obvious to me who's on top- and more curious to try to figure out what order my chickens are in.
You should look it up!

I have it saved on YouTube to watch.

I don't know why but your armadillo is so exciting! Way more exciting than our boring bunnies & possums. Are they common there?

Louisiana is known for their famous Nutria! We have Armadillos in AL too. They dig up your yard looking for grub worms. They stink! They will nearly make you wreck your car if you hit them.

You gotta watch out for those armadillos....I hear they are big drinkers and partiers:

And don’t even think about shooting them....unless you can do a better job than this guy:

Lol, that armadillo is my kind of people!

We used to accidentally startle armadillos while playing outside at nights as kids. We found out that they can jump really high for such an oddly built creature.

We've had a bounty on nutria for quite some time in Louisiana because they're invasive. I guess it worked because I haven't seen any around my area in years. As a child I remember they were everywhere! In fact, I've seen more beavers around, which I didn't even know we had here when I was younger.

Growing up we kept nutrias as pets. They make surprisingly great pets, almost like dogs, aside from chewing all the wood in your house. Well, exactly like some dogs. My cousin had one for years that followed him around everywhere and they would even brush his teeth at night.

Hugs to all of you!
I've had the opposite where I almost lost my mom several times in the last couple years. She's become severely delusional & manic depressive, & we can't always tell what is an accident & what is a suicide attempt. But either way, she's ended up in the ICU almost dead more than once. And she fights everything we all try to do to help her.

The chickens and my dog have been a source of therapy for me - just a daily reminder to take things moment by moment & not be paralyzed by the what ifs. Animals are wonderful that way!
