Not at all. You know what veloci-raptors chickens are, and parrots have a big, weponized beak!Is it odd that I get along just fine with my chickens but I'm kinda terrified of parrots?
You guys made me look on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Einstein-Afr...ncoding=UTF8&refRID=M4VTG0E34MZH8ETD7CHG&th=1
Wow, that is really nice!View attachment 1162807

I love their shirts. Great pictures and I've never had one fade or get funny.
We once stayed at an Air-B&B in San Diego because she had a lot of parrots. So, I always get up early, and the birds were out in the yard, so I went out there to drink my coffee with them. I sat down by the most beautiful Double-Yellow Head, and he was putting his foot out. Just begging to get held, so I picked him up (Using my arm at first) and he was climbing over my lap when the owner came out. She almost fainted, said that bird never lets any one pick it up. Asked if it bit me, I was surprised because he was so sweet. They choose who they want. We can influence but not decide!
Maybe your husband's turn to do the training, you be the source of all tasty treats, only after he steps up nicely. They know what pushes our buttons!
They are smart, scary smart. As self-centered as a toddler. I still give Dylan treats, but only Ted gives the coveted peanut. She likes him better since this program began. She was owned by a teenage boy before, so she should have liked men better, but she took to me first thing. Stepped right up on my hand before I bought her. That is what sold me on her, many/most Greys are not expected to be that friendly with a stranger. The guy we got him from told me he preferred men. He admitted for his first two years he allowed him to over bond with him and then due to a family situation had to leave him in the cage for the last year without much interaction.
We are trying to prevent him from overbonding with my husband so me and DD do the training and treats and DH puts him back in the cage.
He actually responds really well to training but has no trust bond with me at all right now.
And you're right, we can't change who they pick, but we can influence and condition!
The training will make a bond. These guys live long lives and have long memories. I spent weeks just sitting in my rocker near Dylan's cage before asking her to do anything. She would not come out of the cage for a while when we got her. Now, she is out of the cage on top all day. But, your guy sounds young and impressionable, was in a cage for a whole year while young. Give him lots of time. He sounds like a character! He actually responds really well to training but has no trust bond with me at all right now.
