@Smuvers Farm
Doing a true quarantine is super hard.
Not many have room for such.
That being said.... When you were there and took the pictures did you and PIC come home and sterilize yourselves before going near your flock? The rooster had been running loose so his droppings and anything in them would be easily picked up on shoes.
If I remember right you were getting mulch there. Same thing....rooster was likely all over that place.
That means your birds are already lightly exposed.
I would check them for mites and lice, treat as needed. Check their feet for bumble and give them a wash as they are likely dirty. Then do the pen away from yours for a couple weeks. Then move them closer as long as no one is showing signs of illness.
Is it a risk..... Yes.
ok....We can come down there in the winter and here in the summer. I live right on the lake. Boating, jet skiing and don't forget the Islands. Put in Bay and Kellys Island are like little Vegas islands in the lake. What happens there.....stays thereBut it is cold there....... Spring maybe??
We did not sterilize ourselves at all..... although we were stomping all over their area....
We didn't touch any of the birds... but you're right... the rooster had been running all over there...... we don't go near our chickens unless we're in muckies, but wore the same clothing into their run..... so... :::shrug:::
The pile of sawdust is sitting pretty much between where the NEW ladies would go and where our coops and run are currently.
The *feeding anothers birds while they molt* doesn't bother us... or their age either...... they wouldn't end up being PET birds... but productive members of our flock... one way or another yanno? I'm just now anxious about possibly killing MY flock by bringing them here.... yeeeesh.
OK my Squatch Frands.... what should I do? I posted about the 6 ladies being housed outside of the mulch place and asked about quarantine and have been basically told to NOT DO IT.
What say you all?
Edit to Add: They say to not get the girls at all..... just in case you don't feel like reading my tiny, little thread.![]()
