Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

That would work for a few chicks. I used to order 50 chicks once a year from Murray McMurray, so I used the garage!

Here's a look at my crazy brooder. two 8x8 cells with chloroplast for walls on the inside and 1/2" welded wire on outside. Sweeter heater and nipples. Each cell can hold 100, but I like to keep it down to 75. Next year i'll put in rounded corners to avoid pileups.

I just bought a bag of alfalfa pellets (from the small pet section at TSC) to try giving my girls once all my yard vegetation dies off. I want to make sure they still get a variety of greens. Do you think they will eat them as is or should I soak them to make a warm mash? Or even ferment them? Share you thoughts and wisdom please squatchers! :bow

Depending on the size of the pellet, as is, or you can put it in a bag and crack with a hammer, or you can put it in a food mill and grind it, etc... Whatever feels best to you.

Quick question. What is the best thing to put in the nesting box I can get in a small bag, probably at WalMart?

High price, for small bag... Avoid cedar at all costs. I use pine shavings or sawdust.

Is chloroplast and insulation board? How does the heater work for you? They look happy! (And hungry)!
